Bill,
Yes they are removeable, but its alot less hassle just to swap the flywheel over! I've no idea if the ring gears are interchangeable or not - never tried! Swapping the flywheel is a nuts and bolts job.

Hahahahahahahah well I decided the snow was a damn good excuse so just stayed in bed till 9.30 and then drove to work as normal. Only trouble was the muppets who insist on doing 20mph down a clear road...........sigh..........
My boss didnt make it in all day...........that was a waste of time then............sigh..........

Quite simply the existing one leaks! I cant see any obvious reason as to why it leaks, but it does! I took it out, sat it on the bench and filled it to the brim with ATF. By morning I had a torque converter sitting in a huge pool of oil!
I've had a note from Ashcrofts - they expect to have some in stock again next week so if i cant find anything before then thats the way I'll go!
Cheers

Thanks - sent emails to both.
Main stealers will probably want more than the car is worth for a new one!!!!

Anyone got an thoughts for a source for a tourque converter for a 300Tdi?
I've tried all sorts of places and no one seems to have one! Every gearbox place I've tried doesnt have one, Ashcrofts are apparently out of stock, all the breakers I've treid dont have one etc etc etc........
I've even tried equicar - no joy there......
Where else to try?
Any ideas?

Nige,
You can fit the 2.5 petrol one but you need to swp the flywheel also as the ring gear is different.
However they're no more reliable than the series ones, as at least there is no throw out on the solenoid of a series one.

We'll be there, selling lots of series stuff.
Its the day after Wheels Day (rods and customs with proper sized V8s
), so were on for a good weekend
Wheels day...........bugger forgot that was on too........guess I'll be going to that too..........

Just round the corner from Slab.
Big sandy site. There are some technical bits in the trees, but most of its just big, sandy and been cut up badly by the tanks.
Some of the holes are deceptively deep also.
Have to say its not my favourite site - I do prefer Slab, but even thats getting boring these days!

I did it the hole saw method when i did my roll cage - took bluddy hours!!!
When I did my roo bar i just did it with the grinder. Much much quicker and the results are the same - just keep trial fitting it until its perfect.
Abrasive flap wheel in the grinder is best I found.

Nige,
Bear in mind that the speedglas ones go down to shade 3 when untriggered. Some of the others only go down to 4 or 5, so do not go as clear. Makes seeing what you're doing more difficult!

Not that I'm aware of, it's Adwest code 690 if that helps
Sorry - I'm thinking of a P38 rangie box that normally sits on the outside of the chassis rail........I'll go back to sleep.....

We are off to the States early this year and I'm considering ordering a Speedglass 9002v welding helmet (delivered to the hotel)
then I saw the 9002x
anyone have experience of the latter of these2 and would it be worth the extra $$ or will the 9002v suffice for a welding novice(hoping to get better)
You're welcome to try my 9002v out Tony if you're ever in the area!

D'oh!!!!
Looks like my schoolboy physics is more than a tad rusty then!!
Must try harder.......sigh........
Jon

Temparature shouldnt make a difference anyway - simple physics says pressure x volume = a constant.
The volume isnt changing, so the pressure shouldnt either.............or am i missing something?

Fair enough. Frankly I'd hazard a guess that the gauges on regulators arent all that accurate aswell!

Every one I've ever had has been 200 bar when new! I went through about 4 bottles last year and all were 200bar when full!
Note the 3 letter work after the 230Bar bit.........
Jon

Tony,
200 Bar is a full bottle. They are only ever filled to 200 Bar.
The bottle is rated higher than they are actually filled to for safety reasons!

Fit 2.5 flywheel and starter motor mate. There is only one bellhousing available.
Dont forget you'll also need a defender clutch plate.

This has just been sent round by our health and safety lot:-
Dear All,
Please note the following advice for walking on snow and ice:
Plan ahead; give yourself sufficient time and plan your route.
If you can wear shoes or boots that provide traction on snow and ice, avoid smooth plastic and leather soles.
Use special care when entering and exiting vehicles; use the vehicle for support.
Walk in designated walkways as much as possible - shortcuts over un-cleared or un-gritted snow and ice should be avoided.
Look ahead when you walk; a path completely covered with ice may require travel along its grassy edge for traction.
When given no choice but to walk on ice, consider the following:
Take short steps or shuffle for stability.
Bend slightly, walk flat-footed with your centre of gravity directly over the feet as much as possible.
Be prepared to fall.
If you fall, fall with sequential contacts at your thigh, hip, and shoulder to avoid using your arms to protect against breakage.
Bend your back and head forward so you won't slam your head on the pavement as your feet shoot out from under you.
Finally, when entering buildings, remove snow and water from footwear to prevent creating wet slippery conditions indoors.
Are they having a laugh or what?????
FFS!!!!

Roads were easily driveable, but it still took me an hour to get to work this morning! Flipping traffic.....

Sorted..........ordered one from Ashcrofts.......
Interestingly out of all the re-conditioners I tried, Ashcrofts were also the cheapest!
