  1. Bill,

Yes they are removeable, but its alot less hassle just to swap the flywheel over! I've no idea if the ring gears are interchangeable or not - never tried! Swapping the flywheel is a nuts and bolts job.

  2. Hahahahahahahah well I decided the snow was a damn good excuse so just stayed in bed till 9.30 and then drove to work as normal. Only trouble was the muppets who insist on doing 20mph down a clear road...........sigh..........

My boss didnt make it in all day...........that was a waste of time then............sigh..........

  3. Quite simply the existing one leaks! I cant see any obvious reason as to why it leaks, but it does! I took it out, sat it on the bench and filled it to the brim with ATF. By morning I had a torque converter sitting in a huge pool of oil!

I've had a note from Ashcrofts - they expect to have some in stock again next week so if i cant find anything before then thats the way I'll go!

    Cheers

  4. Anyone got an thoughts for a source for a tourque converter for a 300Tdi?

I've tried all sorts of places and no one seems to have one! Every gearbox place I've tried doesnt have one, Ashcrofts are apparently out of stock, all the breakers I've treid dont have one etc etc etc........

I've even tried equicar - no joy there......

    Where else to try?

    Any ideas?

    Ta!

  5. Nige,

You can fit the 2.5 petrol one but you need to swp the flywheel also as the ring gear is different.

However they're no more reliable than the series ones, as at least there is no throw out on the solenoid of a series one.

  6. Just round the corner from Slab.

Big sandy site. There are some technical bits in the trees, but most of its just big, sandy and been cut up badly by the tanks.

Some of the holes are deceptively deep also.

Have to say its not my favourite site - I do prefer Slab, but even thats getting boring these days!

  7. I did it the hole saw method when i did my roll cage - took bluddy hours!!!

When I did my roo bar i just did it with the grinder. Much much quicker and the results are the same - just keep trial fitting it until its perfect.

Abrasive flap wheel in the grinder is best I found.

  8. We are off to the States early this year and I'm considering ordering a Speedglass 9002v welding helmet (delivered to the hotel)

    then I saw the 9002x

anyone have experience of the latter of these2 and would it be worth the extra $$ or will the 9002v suffice for a welding novice(hoping to get better)

You're welcome to try my 9002v out Tony if you're ever in the area!

    Cheers

  9. This has just been sent round by our health and safety lot:-

    Dear All,

Please note the following advice for walking on snow and ice:

Plan ahead; give yourself sufficient time and plan your route.

If you can wear shoes or boots that provide traction on snow and ice, avoid smooth plastic and leather soles.

Use special care when entering and exiting vehicles; use the vehicle for support.

Walk in designated walkways as much as possible - shortcuts over un-cleared or un-gritted snow and ice should be avoided.

Look ahead when you walk; a path completely covered with ice may require travel along its grassy edge for traction.

When given no choice but to walk on ice, consider the following:

Take short steps or shuffle for stability.

Bend slightly, walk flat-footed with your centre of gravity directly over the feet as much as possible.

    Be prepared to fall.

If you fall, fall with sequential contacts at your thigh, hip, and shoulder to avoid using your arms to protect against breakage.

Bend your back and head forward so you won't slam your head on the pavement as your feet shoot out from under you.

Finally, when entering buildings, remove snow and water from footwear to prevent creating wet slippery conditions indoors.

Are they having a laugh or what?????

    FFS!!!!
