  1. Ultimately you will have to pay for it, very sorry to say but it is one of those "grey areas" where nobody can prove one way or the other that there is a responsible party, you could argue that the part was possibly defective? But I doubt whether anyone would own up to it knowing they would have to foot the bill.

Sure someone with a knowledge of a legal prospective will be along shortly to give better guidance on a possible claim but knowing the loop holes and flaws it might be a futile challenge :(

  2. Certifiable, who in their right mind actually buys a car knowing full well it has had a hard life and then pumps humteen thousands into it and then seems to actually enmky rolling around cin the ud when stuff breaks?

I am around €4000 in on this build and it was supposed to be a fewwelding patches and a bit of wiring.

Not as bad as some I know, a buddy back in the UK is over £18,000 in on a build up of an early 90, started out as a new cross member, then a galv chassis, recon engine and gearboxes, H/D everythin in the drive train 35"tyres and the list goes on.......

But what else are we supposed to do with our time and money?

  3. Been looking at a bit of a debate from a while back, but I never actually got any sense of what if anything was wrong with using it for welding purposes?

I use neat CO2 "pub gas" if you like and have done for years as it is cheap and mostly readily available to me.

So whats the truth behind it all????

  4. Hi guys just reading this post.

Careful of Guildford area also. I drove past a land rover which i do almost everyday early evening.

I had a feeling the two guys leaning in werent supposed to be there so turned around and pulled up along side. As soon as i got out of my car they retracted pretty quickly and started walking fast to their car parked behind leaving the defender doors open.

I walked to their car, following them 'to get a better look' but then turned as they drive off and got to the otherside of my car incase they pushed through me.

I looked at the landy and they had made fast work to remove the wheel lock. CAlled the police, whom came pretty quick and were "very excited" when i gave them the registration plate of their car.

Anyway - i never heard anymore but watch out..

    Good work!!!! :i-m_so_happy::i-m_so_happy::i-m_so_happy:

  5. Unless I am mistaken he already has the turbo just not a suitable manifold but could be wrong, so many custom shops in the US that could knock a set of tube headers up in a day and make the down pipe too, just seems silly to be hoping and praying for part delivery from the UK, JMHO.

Sometimes you just gotta suck it up and pay for custom work to be done, especially working within a time frame!!!

    I do bid you success.

    PS Check your PMs!!!!

  6. Went out for a couple of hours to a mates place and had a drive of his 300Tdi round the farm and the old quarry, now either I forgot how much over hang there is or I simply forgot how to drive off road but I gave the bottoms of the rear quarters a bit of a slap in the mud  He didn't care that's what happens to it(so he says but it might not really be the case if you know what I mean?).

Now looked briefly at loads of of H/D rear bumpers but nothing that gives the protection I think I might want, I am looking for something like this.....

(excuse poor drawing on photobucket picture!!)

Is there one available off the shelf where I can trim the back quarter to suit or is it a custom fabrication jobby?

  7. Alternatively if you have a tube bender, you can make an exhaust out of roll cage type tube. This has the advantage that it will outlast the Earth so although custom, you will never need to replace it.

    Si

Custom headers were my thoughts with relocated turbo, still trying to visualize it but can't really see any good quick odd cheaper alternatives.

  8. Oh dear Me: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kahn-Landrover-Defender-90-XS-NO-VAT-/181250318412?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a335c604c

I fully appreciate that people can get caught out but FFS please someone should knock some sense into the other original purchases(buyers)of this 90-This price is obscene!!

    John

All that red just makes me think of hookers, I am not saying Kahn have no taste but the last two extremely expensive 90s were Kahn creations, but perhaps they are aiming for pimps and prostitutes? Think they would be the only ones with enough money and so little taste as to buy dither as a daily driver!

  9. This sounds familiar!

    no start at all .

battery on charge ,then later still no start .

Wednesday after much cranking over the engine fired up ,with lots of smoke ( light blue ) and reluctance to tick over . There is no discernable misfire .

I have started up since and quite problematic with smoke also .

About 18months ago my peugeot partner van suffered very similar symptoms and it turned out to be a corroded pump internals from dirty fuel, we had a new tank installed in the yard, a plastic 5000ltr one and I got the last of the dregs out of the old 2000ltr metal one, and within 2wks it was dead, we came to the conclusion that it was a case of any water in the bottom of the tank ended up drained into my van and being used infrequently it corroded the internals of the pump.

But am hoping you are not so unlucky!!

  10. my advice is to stick with one car, that works for me. judging from your disco buildthread, the one you have gives you enough trouble as it stands. By all means swap it for a defender or a CT disco, but 2 landrovers = twice the trouble and expense. Even so, the time you have spend on your current disco would be wasted and hardly recouped by selling it. This is why I still have my old series 3, as I cannot face loosing the lightyears of time I spend on it over the last 23 years.

    Daan

I have taken all afternoon to reflect on this post and given it a lot of thought.

I suppose with this one drawing towards a road worthy completion in the next few weeks I kind of wanted something on the back burner to keep me thinking and tinkering, but I got a bit project happy in my head and I suppose the fact that I probably won't get to do another full on project after this I was looking for something to give it my all and be a real spot on job where it does not matter whether it stands idle in the corner of the yard in the summer under a tarp only to be dragged in for build up when I have time and parts.

In truth I think feel a little silly as I got carried away with my dreams of building a one off 90 as some sort of asset and when the Came Trophy Disco came up within days I then had a cow and the "I want" tantrum of a spoilt child told me I "had" to have one or the other.

I don't have to have either, kind of dawned on me thinking about your post Daan, having Rusty has been a year of trials and tribulations and a steep learning curve/reminder of how much energy it takes to keep momentum up in a project, especially when you get bogged down in it and see little progress after hours/days of hard work.

Certainly not a hasty decision but I have decided not to take on either project at the moment and to actually carry forth with Rusty, there are a lot of things I always wanted to put on my trucks and Daan is right, why try and spread it between two trucks? I have this one and can actually give it all of my attention and all of my GFs money so why not make a better job of this and see what happens in a few years time?

With prices falling faster than Jordans panties I could pull a D3 by then

  11. In all honesty I have never really been a great lover of Defenders, I got excited once and bought a reasonable 110 for £4500 had it a week and got fed up as it was barely any better than my series 3 109 that I had, although yes a lot of work went into the series I just expected better of supposedly the next generation Defender, sold it for £7000 to a local guy who got very excited when I brought it home, probably another reason why I never tell anyone the true price I pay for my cars, can mostly make quick and easy money.

Still not sure, got a lot of thinking to do and go poke around it of course.

  12. That's more like a proper grade Discomikey. Its the Euronorm standardised Hot Rolled structural plate specification.

I think its S275 which is the Tensile in Newtons/mm2.

Be interesting to know how LR chassis compare.

And Barry enters full bore anorak mode :moglite::moglite::moglite:

I wish I could actually sip a beer with you one day man
