  1. I seem to be getting a rather loud click noise when braking hard sometimes it does it when braking softly aswell, Anyone have any ideas as to the cause of this? I am about to replace the brake pads and possably discs soon. So anyoen have any ideas to what is causeing this to click once it clicks its feels like the brake pedal goes in a little bit, like harder on if you get me. Keith.
  2. I could be of some help, where abouts is the S1 your looking at?
  3. Thats would be super i think i know where you stay seen you out working on the land rover when i come out of tesco's Its only a little weld because the exhaust mount has snapped
  4. Mot is coming up and I need a little bit of welding to an exhaust mount. So is there anyone around the Inverness area able to do this?
  5. Welcome, I'm from the highlands aswell where about you from? Keith.
  6. I'm biting the bulit and just buying a new starter motor
  7. ok starter motor off great. Time for the strip down ok located the bolts needing removed tryed first one head snapped off : / so thought balls and guess what each and every one did that now i have 3 headless bolts in teh starter motor So new question how do i removed these headless bolts >.<
  8. OK swearing - Check lots of extensions - Un ckeck :< gona give it a little rest for a bit been out there on the land rover since 10 at least the exhaust is fitted but now i cant start it to hear it bur A mate will be round later so maby a new set of eyes will get it off.
  9. Ok so started taking the starter motor off to replace the solonoid. The two visable bolt are off but now to the tricky part how do i get the one thats on the inside, the side of thte engine? i have located it now how do i remove it :S i have got an extension on my rachet but it seems to wide? and is catchign on somthing and not allowing the socket to get on the nut. So if any of you wise men could lend a little point would be much apreciated. Also i assume the bolt that the power leads go on to is replacable seeing as the *beeping* thing sheared off If i have the time after i will write up a ''How to'' So if anyone else needs to do it it might be a little clearer for them. Thanks Keith.
  10. Dont mean to hijack the thread but a quick question, I am in the middle of trying to get my starter motor off my Td5 defender and am just wondering how many bolts secure it on ? i can easly see 2 but there must be another one in a realy hard to reach place if anyone could take a pic it would be great.
  11. Just because some off us have subs in the land rover dosnt mean we listen to horrid dance music
  12. I seem to get bombarded by this questions from my mates but its probaly because there not into landrovers. They allways go on about see if you kept the monney you 'wasted' on that thing i would have had a nice car but i dont see it that way. But heres a question for you say if someone comes up to you and offers to swap your land rover for something shinnier and better land rover wise looking would you swap ? For some strange reason I would say no, since getting and having rebuilt it and would probaly not let it go. Its like part of a family now. Do any of you feel the same way towards your land rovers or would you jump ship and replace it ?
  13. I have just mounted my amp and subs just behind the bulkhead but i spose with the 6x9's you wont have made a box for them ? Because with my amp it goes ontop of the subs box
  14. Remeber not all young 4x4 drivers drive like that. Some oldies drive like yobs too
  15. Well driving along today and another noise has started its not all the time but when it does happen its normaly when i put the clutch in and out. Sometimes it stays on while driving but will go away for somereason. The noise is sort of like metal spinning around loose and then hitting somthing and then sliding across it. Kinda like dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot over and over again so its not a continious noise. I was thinking it could be the clutch on its way out seeing as its sometimes slips at full power, or possably the rear prop shaft it looks like its on its way out also. But them again there is a lot of play in the transferbox and i do hear a clung now and again when changing direction aka forward to backwards. Anyone have any ideas? or possably this has happened to you? Thanks keith. Also got a 120 miles trip tomorow to get home so was wondering if its safe to drive on
  16. I have a TD5 1999 as well and when i changed over fuel filter it did this but i took it out for a right bollocking(foot down) for about a 30 mile round trip and the noise has gone back to normal i put it down to just air in the system now its back to the normal sound. So it might not be the fuel pump. Keith.
  17. Dam i did notice some oil in the ECU compartment and porny the revs do cut out as well it kinda goes loud quite loud quite. Thanks for more advice
  18. There 9/16 th's I think well my new 'prop' bolts are
  19. Well seems like theres another problem i have found with this td5, when i acelerate at a fast pace once I get to say 10mph in 1st, 20 in 2nd and so on the Td5 starts going power, no power, power, no power. Kinda like its stopping and starting ? But say i go slowly up to those speeds the landrover is find and can go higher. Just wondering if anyone else had/has this and knows why it does this. My mate seems to think its the clutch starting to slip at high revs.
  20. Up here in Scotland its normaly defenders/series that wave and flash and that. But when I snapped my front prop some random guy went past in a defender and stopped and offered his assiastance which I thought was quite nice of him he even offered to give me one of his wheels and a prop shaft and I didnt even know him lol.
  21. Ok had a little time to have a look at this. Could anyone tell me what this brown relay is for on the TD5 its the one next to teh yellow light one. It seems to not be working and its got brown wires going into it and orange coming out its the same brown wires that go into the switch on the steering colum. Could this be causeing the loss of lights? Also say if i short the purple wire that goes to the flash/indicators onto the red sidelights wire it it sorts the problem and thats even with the brown relay out and if its in.
  22. Ye there was two in my tool roll in my Td5 thats where they will be
  23. I seem to be getting a max speed of 75mph in my Td5 and thats downhill! But i understand that there might be a limiter on the td5 ? is this true ? Also i seem to only get about 30 mph in 3rd gear before it starts to kangaroo any ideas if thats normal or if theres something wrong ?
  24. Sorry to thread steal but what was the rattle you heard? was it when you started up and shut down as well or just at idle ? I seem to have a weird noise coming from that area on start up and shut down sort of like a clunk clunk like somethings turning around and hitting something. Does this sound like yours at all ? Thanks keith
