  1. the website still looks active http://www.legs.co.uk/index.html
  2. I have noticed this place on the way home the other night and as my clutch fork has just failed thought i would give them a try - I am well impressed - clutch fork and bits in stock and an oe clutch with the 8 springs in the friction plate all at a very competitive price - as cheap as the large suppliers and internet boys for the clutch etc. They have only just started out but they appear to stock most fast moving parts and from quality suppliers i.e bearmach, a.e, delco etc plus some cheaper stuff for things like indicator lenses etc. They are stocking up on winch challenge and serious off road stuff by the look of it and thier is a winch challenge truck in the workshop with a tvr v8 in it Anyway I am not connected in any way just thought i would pass this on as I got excellent service and will definatly be using them again the web site link is below - there is not a lot on it yet but its worth giving them a call if you are in the sw plus they are open on a sunday morning!! http://www.tor4x4.co.uk/
  3. Cheers for advice - just had another cursory look and the pedal only goes arond 1/2 way down so yes i think its the clutch fork. I had a look at the technical archive (great stuff) wehre Les details the gearbox removal so i will have a ponder which way to go - its due a cambelt change so I may as well do that at the same time and put a clutch in while its split.
  4. I have never had any issues with the clutch on my 98 300tdi disco until tonight - on the way home the gears grunched once or twice and i thought the clutch might be on the way out - then i depressed the clutch pedal and it stayed down(just a well i was on a country road at the time and not in town - i pulled over thinking either the master or slave cylinder however once the rac had recovered my car and got it home i notice the clutch pedal only goes 2 thirds of the way down then stops dead/solid I am thinking this might be a worn/broken clutch fork as there is no fluid loss and no previous problems - if this is the case I will replace it as I have done other clutches etc on my series lr - however any tips on this job - is it easier to remove the engine or the gearbox? I have an engine crane but no pit or ramp any advice gratefully recieved cheers will
  5. my 1998 disco 1 has quite a few scratches around the wheelarches and I have sourced a complete set of second hand disco 1 xs wheelarch and side moulding strips. They appear to fix with clips and a double sided adhesive strip adound each edge has anyone else fitted these before as i was after a little guidance/advice on what I could use to re-fix them properly. thanks will
  6. thanks for the offers - the 300 is differant to the 200. It looks like it has been leaking for quite a while so a day or 2 more wont make too much differance. I got a good discount when I bought the vehicle today because of the leak so i can't complain
  7. Just my Luck The fuel lift pump om my 1998 300 tdi disco has sprung a leak - anyone know where I can get one from on a bank holiday monday in the somerset area?? cheers will
  8. Yes I think you may be right on the price - I may call and cancel today as its 100 miles away cheers will
  9. I am going to look at a very high milage 193k 1996 300tdi se auto tomorrow. I am assured its basically in very good condition, full service history from day one with a new turner cylnder head fitted 40k miles ago.High milage due to motor way driving to work around 80 miles a day. The price is about right at just over 2k but I was wandering if 193k was just too high and starting to worry if everything will need replacing soon - impossible to tell I know but any suggestions welcome cheers will
  10. Thanks for the info so far - I thnk I am swaying to a td5 it cant be any more expensive than the dam shogun we had a few years back £1100 for a throttle body!!
  11. Hi all I am in the market to get a new car and have up to 5k to spend I notice looking in autotrader that i could get a really nice late P/R 300tdi or perhaps a S/T/V/W td5 which is the better bet for reliability etc I love the look of the newer ones but I can service/rebuild etc the 300tdi a lot easier?? Just after a few opions really and what to avoid/look out for cheers will
  12. Honest this is not a Joke - this is the design brief for the engineering students at the college where I work. They have to build a wheelchair that is capable of going off road i.e coastal paths etc and also be acceptable on the pavement. its going to be battry powered and use solar panels and/or an alternator/very small motor for recharging purposes. Max speed 8mph but it can always be restricted. It will be based arounf the original classic wheelchair design and the students allready have 3 wheelchairs, solar panels, batteries. basically its to help the severly handicapped get out in to the countryside. Any suggestions for ideas in relation to suspension, wheels, tyres, rollcage, motor, charging, design concepts are most welcome Forgot to mention this is for an educational competition and forum/supporter stickers/references are most welcome and will be advertised on the vehicle.
  13. Bit late now but you can take a mk2 vw golf alternator pully and fit it to the disco alternator as its an extended pully - then use a 50' v belt and omit the power steering pump completley - total cost about £10 - fitting time about 1 hr and the belt lines up perfectly and runs fine
  14. If it helps - a 300 tdi front pipe flange/front pipe will fit directy on the 3 bolt turbo exhaust housing and is the correct diameter. I bought one to use on my conversion but opted for the steve parker conversion to save time. You would need to do lots of cutting/bending but the flange is a perfect fit, the front pipes are cheap £20 if you dont mind the cutting/welding I have one here you can have for a £10 but you are a little too far away i think. dont forget to rotate the inlet housing so it will clear the inner wing and be easier for pipework you will need to re-drill/tap it for the wastegate housing - 6mm metric. Most tdi conversions appear to sit very low so no need to worry there. if you need to/want to fit the glow plug timer i can send you the wiring instructions if you want them that is?
  15. Well done - what did you do? raise the engine and fabricate mounts? as that looks like loads of clearance now
  16. seriousley around £500 if the vehicle has no mot/tax and you cannot see the engine running then i dont think you will get much more
  17. Sorry but i thought you were allready aware of this problem fron your previous thread 200 tdi in to straight six chassis if you lift the engine up you wil need to modify the bulkhead - your best bet is a set of defender 200tdi inlet manifolds and modify the alternator - there is a very detailed thread on fitting a 200tdi in to a 109 on the series 2 club forum pinned in the mechanical matters section where three or four of us were all contributing our experiences of this conversion. You could even use the 2.5td inlet, turbo and exhaust, i saw that on this forum somewhere in the past six months cheers will
  18. Not sure of this helps but when i fitted my 200tdi disco engine in to my 2a swb i used an adaptor pt no ERC 8973 about £5 from a lr dealer. This threads in to the 200tdi head and allows me to use my series sender unit so keeping the correct reading. the adaptor was originally fitted to the 2.5 petrol engines that were fitted to 90's
  19. not sure on this one i dont think landrover fitted the 2.5 NA engine to anything before 1984 and certainly not the 2.5 td or the 200tdi if he had fitted a v8 engine then you would be ok as there is the stage one v8 which engine has he fitted??
  20. Reading this I have to tell you a story of a customer I used to deal with when I was in the motor trade. He always had a stagger and used a walking stick, one day we got to talking about what happened to him. He was under a car welding when a piece of molten metal went in to his ear - of couse because it was molten it melted the wax and went straight through the ear drum and basically inside his head destroying his inner ear etc. He now has no sense of balance, feels perminatly dizzy/sick and has to take drugs every day just to get by, plus he regularly has flashbacks. I now use ear plugs whenever i weld under a car for a few pence for ear plugs its got to be worth it!
  21. And you wuld lose your tax exempt status if you modify the chassis for a coil conversion
  22. get a patent on it before it goes orange
  23. You can use your series rad if you buy an aftermarket oil cooler(about £30 quid) . Use the top thermostat housing from your old 2.25 engine - it fits directly in place of the 200tdi one. you can then use a standard series top hose, on the bottom hose you ca use a combination of series hoses depending on if its a series 2a rad or a series 3 rad.
  24. Sorry to hear about your truck , I am amazed how quick it caught and enveloped the vehicle - a lesson for us all there.
  25. About 6 years ago I bought a "waterloo shop series" black setup from Halfords for £150 on special offer. It has a large bottom toolcart for powertools etc and 2 stack/tool chest units on top - 12 full width sliding drawers in all and a top container and about 5ft tall in all. I use it every day though not professionally and its been brillant, no broken locks or sticky drawers and i have given it some abuse so for the non pro users its a good setup. I thought I had bought a budget setup but I remember at the time the salesman was suprised at the price and there was only the one in the shop and looking at the price of a identical setup now on the net i see why, I think they missed off a 0 in the price
