  1. Thanks for the links - i will have a look/download when im at work as its a better download speed
  2. I use teamac brush paint enamel in my sparay gun use a 10% thinning solution total cost around £30 and the finish is about as good as you can get for an outside job - in fact its perfectly respectable really a little orange peel but thts down to my sparaying. I find teamac better than the stuff in halfords as it cures quickly and virtually no runs.
  3. anyone know where i can source an on line 200tdi parts manual? cheers
  4. as far as parts go i would go for oe supplier parts e.g. AE or something like that, I expect bearmach will supply quality stuff
  5. Yep pistons will go out through the block but its a fiddle with the crank in position, make sure you dont catch the oil spray pipes that spray oil under the piston and the crank journels. I am not sure about fitting rings straight in - i thought you were supposed to hone the bores before fitting but I am sure someone else here can give an answer to that one.
  6. Look on the bright side - its back together and not smoking or rattling, a bugger about the seal but at least its not loads of expense - i expect mine will do someting similar when its finished
  7. I suffered this problem Ive had 3 series then a ninty then a disco then a range rover and always wanted to go back to the series for the nostalga however they are not really very practical as an everyday vehicle i terms of comfort/mpg etc. I know you can spend a fortune fixing things like power steering, new engines, suspension etc but you then get in to serious cah I ended up buying a good cheap warm in the winter, economical car as an everyday driver for £900 and a tax exempt 1970 2a with a new chassis for £1150 so roughly 2000 total. free tax and £100 a year to insure the landy fully comp and £150 per yrear to insure the car. The normal car option makes sense as i often nip up to old sodbury sortouts at 35 to the gallon in my nice warm comfy car listening to the radio and can still get bits in the boot. when i feel like it i take the series out for a run and do a bit of off roading etc and if it brakes down its no worries as its not my onl vehicle. Plus i can play with it like fitting the 200tdi engine etc and take my time. Im happy, wifes happy and its the cheapest option for me
  8. Hickleys are a good bet thats where James goes i think
  9. I can get one out and measure it f you like wont be til tomorrow now - a 19mm spanner fits the head and they are quite big cheers will
  10. Sounds fine to me, I will get some pictures up later today so you can have a look cheers wil
  11. A hybrid turbo! That could make sense as it had samco sport hoses and new braded oil feed pipes etc i will deffo check in the morning as i really want a good standard turbo a tuned hybrid jobbo might be a bit too much for my s2a 88
  12. I will post some pics tomorrow when its light but basically I have a discovery 200tdi turbo & manifold as well as the normal 2 oil feed holes on the turbine body there are to water pipe inlet and outlet holes, the water pipes connected to a modified heater pipe over the inlet manifold and a junction on the thermostst I didnt realise it was any differant until i bought another 200tdi engine and compared the turbos - they look identical in every other way exept the turbine body/housing does not have the cooling fins. the casting numbers on the aluminium inlet side are also identical any ideas? Pictures below
  13. Got to admit the wfe and i laughed our heads off, i expect a lot of it was staged
  14. Yes i think it is the same, if it screams you may just have a manifold leak somewhere but with the smoke some seals may be gone as well however i have heard that its easy to blame the turbo when its other things. dont know if thats a lot of help but it shouldnt take too long to swap them over and check, the boost pressures are the same.
  15. they were not landorver related, they sell rebuild kits to suit the make of turbo eg garrett, mitsubushi etc cheers will
  16. there is a company on ebay that sells them - I cant remember thier name now but i posted it in a thread about rebuilding turbos about a month ago
  17. Just a thought but the standard intercoolers are cheap s/h - could you run 2 in series or would that have no effect?
  18. here are a couple of links on rebuilding a turvo i found on the net. they are usa based as suppliers must me more forthcoming over there Garrett rebuild general rebuild info A honda based forum where someone is doing it with picsanother site there are lods more sites as well just keep looking - I think its an interesting subject a although I appriciate the balance thing I cant help but wonder why we cant replace seals etc ourselves.
  19. The company did not have my name & address - it was via another forum related to a lr club that I belong to. One of the moderators contacted the company and they sent the apology in writing. I am now very pleased and my opinion of them has been restored.
  20. Today I have recieved a written apology from the firm in question and a good explanation for the manner on the telephone So the rant is over now and I can retract my statement about thier customer service/telephone manner being poor thanks will
  21. You do see a lot of old turbocharges still going strong with carbon/oil deposits or damaged impellors so the ultra critical balance thing does pose a question if these turbos can still work ok with contamination and/or damage?
  22. Damm youre right - I should expect this after all they are virtual gods, I am sorry I must remember to be humiliated more often and expect this kind of treatment from very busy professionals who dont need business from mere luddites or should i say Idiots like me who post totally pointless threads. Note to self - must be more forgiving of supreme gods Didnt think this was the type of forum where members called other members idiots - I must have got it wrong?
  23. A company called turner engineering has an article on rebuilding the 200tdi, in that article they state the oil pump is very long lasting and unless excessive use the original, I think i would use genuine rotors if i were you. the article is here 200 tdi rebuild however the last time I called them to order some parts they wernt very interested so i would go via land Rover
  24. There is a company on e-bay selling genuine turbo rebuild kits - I posted acouple of weeks ago about this - looking on the net it appears that its the shaft/impellors that are balanced and as long as you dont take these apart you are ok, if you do take tham apart remember to line everything up again afterwords. do a search on the net under diy turbo rebuild or something like that. I am probobly going to go the re-con route but if you are stuck a kit may be the answer?
