  1. Yes - but thanks for your concern- appreciated !
  2. Thanks for your responses - I can relax again and sleep soundly - I need my full strength to tighten the head bolts ! I am fitting new ones by the way ! Thanks again - great forum
  3. Thanks, that's just what I was hoping to hear !!
  4. OK - I know I'm stupid but I have just fitted a new Elring head gasket and have used a three hole and the original was a two hole, how much of a problem is this, I understand it is 0.1mm thicker -the engine has done 90,000
  5. This isn't turning into a Python sketch is it ? the moderator won't be pleased !!
  6. Wardrobe????? Don't go putting ideas in her head with your fancy southern ways - we are north of the Trent and she has a perfectly adequate nail on the back of the door!!
  7. I have had two Richards' chassis, the first one for my 110 200tdi went reasonably well apart from minor alignment problems with the rear end. The second is a 90 200tdi and has been a nightmare, very difficult to get the bulkhead lined up and the front axle could only be brought into line by using an adjustable panhard rod - tracking was impossible without it as the front and rear axles were 1/2" out of line and the vehicle would be crabbing.
  8. Yes, was concerned at one stage that it might be £600 for injector pump etc which would have pushed the total cost of this rebuild nearer the divorce limit - already had to recarpet the house to placate - she can't understand why I need two Defenders.
  9. Thought I had reported back yesterday but must have pressed the wrong button! 90 now back home - embarrassed to admit that the problem,as usual, was self inflicted; the fuel pipe union into the tank was loose and sucking air - i had obviously not pinched it up when installing tank on rebuild so had been ok for first 50 miles but worked loose. Thanks for your response
  10. Thanks, just off to recover it in my trusty 110 - will report back later
  11. Thanks for replies, idling time varies but can be ok until revved, tank and filter new on rebuild 50 miles ago, engine had been standing for a long time -many months until a year ago and did not respond to accelerator which is why I replaced pump and filter but deliberately did not over rev when I acquired until I had replaced the timing belt
  12. Just taken rebuilt 90 - 200tdi- out for first major after complete rebuild and fine for first 50 miles then sudden loss of power and stops- will start after few seconds but only runs for 200/ 400 yards then stops again. I do not know this engine - it has done 121,000 and whiIe it was out of the 90 I had fitted new fuel pump and timing belt and filters but nothing else as I intend to swap engine for one out of my 110. The fuel pump was a cheap one and I did not fit the spacer. The truck is 20 miles from home and I want to recover it in the morning - any ideas please
  13. Thanks - yes they look significantly smaller but I understand that this is the correct tyre size for that year's model - 1993 so I will stick with it and hope to get used to it. I'm not clever enough to work it out but how much faster is the engine running at say 60 and is this a problem ? Years ago I would have fitted an overdrive !!!
  14. Have been rebuilding a 90 200 tdi since February and just got the Mot so feeling quite pleased. I've never driven a 90 before, only my 110 for the past 25 years. that is also a 200tdi. I am surprised by how low geared the 90 feels, at 60mph the engine seems to be running faster than I am used to on the 110, the boxes are both LT77 and both have 1:1.410 transfer gears - I know because I rebuilt them both so the only difference is the tyre size, 7.50 Rangemasters on the 110 and Michelin 205/80 on the 90. Or is this just my imagination ??
  15. Thanks Peaklander, no problem with Sheffield
  16. I assume this is a 200tdi with the LT77 box, do you have access to the service history as there was an issue at that time with the transfer gear in the transfer box not being cross drilled and therefor causing wear on the splines . This is easy to remedy on the transfer box but the gearbox needed to have the mainshaft replaced after about 100K to 150K miles if the original gear had not been changed. Also check the history to ensure the timing belt has been changed as appropriate. Good luck
  17. Thanks for that, has any member used someone in North Notts that does blasting and powder coating recently ?
  18. Thanks, will write to Santa Was going to take the one off my 110 but have decided to keep both the 90 and the 110 for the time being, have had the 110 since new in 1991 and can't bring myself to part with it. Looking forward to using the 90 - have never had a short wheelbase before
  19. two years ago when I rebuilt my 110 I picked up a new wrap around bull bar from a small firm in Lincolnshire. Unfortunately I have lost their contact details and now require another for my 90.Does anyone know this place please, obviously it was supplied for "off road use only" !!!
  20. of all the 200 tdi clutches I've changed since 1991 only a few had this in place and it makes no difference; the input shaft is always angled downwards away from the engine anyway.
  21. Couldn't agree more - I have not replaced them on my 90 or 110 and there is no problem - helps the power/weight ratio as well !!
  22. I've just made up all the pipes on the 90 200 I'm rebuilding and that one is 77inches - female both ends
  23. Never seen these on a 110 but have only had hardtops never a CSW; don't look regular enough to be originals
