  1. Thanks Gromit, is this from Microcat? The pics in my version are carp, couldnt make sense of the diagram... Looks like a new mech is required
  2. Ive actually bust the mech whilst fitting deadlocks, think Ive drilled a coupling off by mistake! Ooops!
  3. Does anyone have an exploded view of the Defender front door mechanism? Looking for setup with this type of door handle (see pic):
  4. You need to go for one with 'Sirf Star' technology, I think mine is a version three or a four... I use a Nokia LD-300 for my smartphone (takes Nokia battery so has 21 hour life), but Ive got a built in GPS on my PDA (O2 XDA) for memory map which has to be the way forward cos using bluetooth soaks up battery power... The sirf star technology is one of the best out there, aquires sattelites very quickly (30+ seconds - maybe a minute+ if you are moving) and you can throw the GPS in the glovebox and it still works, so it rarely drops the signal... A lot of other GPS carp pales into comparison by Sirf star standards, in fact my mates Garmin needs an external aerial and still takes 5 mins to find sattelites! Have fun... Cheers Jamie
  5. I have a mechanical lock on the diff box which should thwart any theft attempts and presumably the immobiliser will help slow any potential vehicle thief down, in all honesty I think the little **** last night was probably just after the stereo.. I know that Im not got to be able to stop access completely, but really just want to know what options are available to me so any potential opportunist thief will think twice about trying to get in for something on the dashboard or my stereo etc.. Thanks Jamie
  6. See my post in the Defender Forum... http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=20111
  7. I have a hardtop TD5 Defender, I got video of someone trying to get into it the passenger side door this evening, luckily the alarm went off when they opened the door and they ran off, but it must have taken him about 2 seconds to twirl the lock....little scrote.... Anyway, Im thinking of getting an aftermarket Cat1 alarm fitted, but my vehicle has no central locking... Do I need to fit Land Rover central locking motors or do they come with the alarm (i.e Clifford etc)..? And is there anyway to replace the door handles with the key type you see on commercial vans (I think they are made by chubb...?), or even get rid of them completely and remove the keyhole? Thanks
  8. Working on a 110 hardtop camper conversion, currently plying out the rear... How right you are!
  9. Just thought I would update you all: Spoke to the supplier today and they have made me a full winch and bumper replacement offer of a an 8274 and high mount Defender bumper all in for £1000 (I paid about £700 for the defective winch and bumper). Originally they wanted £1175 and seemed like they would stick to their guns, but theyve dropped the VAT for the hassle of me having to return the winch twice and the bent bumper, and of course my dissatisfaction with the product... I have taken them up on the offer and thanked them for doing me such a good deal, once the deal is done I will name the supplier on here for their good service in helping to resolve this issue... All in all, lesson learned (dont buy imported Chinese carp!), I normally do lots of research on the net prior to purchasing anything, but this time I just went for something without looking into it.. Thanks for all your help, much appreciated Jamie
  10. I phoned Jade of Muddy Trout today, they are unfortunately no longer in business, so it seems that apart from the US suppliers, Devon 4x4 is the cheapest out there... Thanks for all your input guys.. Jamie
  11. I settled with a leather Richbrook R2 (340mm) and Mountney M boss, makes it a lot easier to drive and it feels great, really positive..
  12. Would you send it as a 'gift' though (taxes huh!)? And how much for the shipping?
  13. Looking for the cheapest retailer of the 8274.... Currently its Devon 4x4 at £799.00 I've heard that Muddy Trout are really cheap but their websites down... Any ideas? Thanks J
  14. UPDATE: Took it back this evening and they admitted that the bumper was bent (after being very defensive initially - but once I took it off completey it was very obvious).. I think they are prepared to do me a deal on a new Warn 8274 and bumper (Defender 110), but they want a grand + VAT which [i think] is a carp price. I told the manager I will be looking at competor prices and will get back to him tomorrow. (I hinted at a full refund if the price wasnt right!)... Will an 8274 be strong enough for a TD5 110? If not, it would be good if you guys posted some suggestions on what would be the ideal winch.. I will look at some of the posts on the forum for suggestions too... Appreciate the help guys, keep up the good work
  15. You are right, I will give them a chance first, though I have only used it on two outings, and it has been well cared for..... Thanks for the feedback Tony, I will update this thread with any feedback
