I have grooved discs and find that they clear very well, the carp is pushed in to the groove and flung out when spinning, without the groove its compressed and acts like grinding paste.

RE:
EDIT - I have no idea why the rover diff above has no thread on the end to hold the UJ flange on (all the ones I own have a thread) - I assume it is threaded internally for a bolt - is this the latest design or aftermarket only???
You are spot on, threaded internally for a bolt . They been factory fitted for a few years now.

To fit the KAM diff do you have to remove the diff pan and do a lot of fiddly welding? So if you have a breakdown can you just refit a std diff?
You can but an ARB from Ashcroft or D4x4 ready to fit exchange diff or outright buy.
Peter
I have a Jack Mcnamara in rear and having Ashcrofts do a ARB for me at the moment for front, The Jack mac was a lot dearer but I think that they are better built. But I understand that ARB have done some mods recently.
As I won't be use front that much have gone for ARB, I have an ARB compressor fitted which will do both.

Hi Ced,
I have decided to stay with 3.5 rps and 1.4 transfer then go for the underdrive, as you know I have an Auto so slightly different to you, however if you do change to Auto you will have to rethink and do it all again.
The auto has a slightly higher gearing so would struggle with 35's and a 1.2 transfer box in high on 35s.

Chris I have had the discs fitted for 3 yrs, I can't think how much I paid for them, but they will need renewing soon as they are wearing out.
They are vented front and solid rears, 2001 90TD5 with ABS/TC

Hi Ben,
I have them on my 90, They wear a lot faster than normal ones but the disc's don,t rust. I shop around for a good price normally 4x4partsmaster as they are close to me and I buy 6 sets of pads at a time.
As for the braking performance hard to tell, I think that they are better in the mud and slop, but not much difference in dry.
Peter
If you are running a std TD5 air box just after the 90 bend in to the box there is a fixed propeller shape thing just like a cyclone but bigger, I have just fitted a Piper Cross filter and air box with 100mm inlet and 100mm out but reduced down to 76mm for airflow meter and to fit on snorkel. The original was down to 55mm at water trap.
The air filter has a big effect on air flow.
Merry Xmas

I was in at Ashcrofts today picking up a gearbox and had the chance to see the Test Rig, a well put together bit of kit. The problem being, finding a shaft that is stronger than the new CV, so as to get the correct break figure. I understand shafts are being made at the moment, which may be stronger than the CV time will tell. It must be infuriating when you want to break something and it wont let go.

I am pulling out all the relevant looms they are quite long and moving it up to the rear bulk head it looks like I should be able to get to about top of seat height on n/s will need to un pick a few wires for connections to gear box etc, but as I am fitting an Auto I need to make a few changes anyway.

I have just removed the gear box from my 2001 td5 90 after 53000mls and a lot of water wading some times over bonnet level, Very dry inside there is a slot at bottom of gear box that was blocked with mud(from day 1 I would think). as for the breathers I have total standard set up but am changing due to them being off and gear box change all oils were OK they (Axle and gear box oils) have been changed a few times but never found water in oil yet.
As for the the potentiometer mine has been under water a few times probably pushed my luck but OK so far, I am in the process of moving ECU and other bits at the moment.

I find T/C and rear diff locker work well together, as I do a lot of road miles I like the ABS as well. Can they be turned down and a abs ring fitted from a greater strength material, making them even stronger? ( I think that is what Lara has done) We did this years ago on Suzuki CV’s to stop them breaking not for t/c.
Gear Box less!
