I don't think having a full hydro setup & stickies is a real major advantage when he was up against trucks that were running link suspension, coil-overs, D60 1 ton axles, hydro assist etc... the only reason full hydro's not allowed is that it makes the vehicles non-road legal in most (prob all) US states for the simple fact that there is no mechanical connection between the driver & the steering axle. I'd say his truck is on a par with a 'hobby built' dual purpose daily driver & weekend wheeler for north America & Canada. Heck my buddies wheel at the weekends with KOH competing buggies..... And yes, I did follow the races on FB & the live feed.... rooting for Jim & my Canadian buddies in cars #313, #4410 & #4487.... just my 2c

  3. Anyone have a lead on a decent brass or St/St bulkhead connector to link the MAP tube from inside my waterproof box to the outside... coming up a bit short this side of the pond. Cheers, Andy
  4. Got a start on the Megasquirt install last night, mounted the ECU into the stronger water resistant box & added the chunky MIL spec connectors
  5. I'm using a IP rated alum box & a pair of mil spec plug & sockets for the loom. The relays & fuse box will be mounted onto the box lid and the whole thing bolted to the rear cab back behind the drivers seat as high up as possible. Should be safe there and well out of harms way
  6. Here is a picture of the MS sat in the alum box, as you can see it's quite a tight fit. I think that I'm going to change the right angle db9 to a vertical mount & straighten the LEDs too. Might also trim the end plates down so they just hold the PCB into the bottom half of the case. There will be little stress on the db37 without the plug shell anyway and it's leads will only be ~6" long to the Amphenol chassis sockets. Would have been nice if B&G had put 3 more pillar mounting holes in the PCB, could have disposed of the case altogether then and mounted directly into the bottom of the box. Do you have a good lead on a brass bulkhead connector for the MAP pipe, ideally with hose barbs on it. I can get plastic ones but there not ideal.

Will tap the mounting screws through the box bottom, put a plain nut on the inside & seal with red loctite. That should be watertight enough for my application. Relays will be mounted along with the fuse box on the bulkhead in my install, ECU behind the drivers seat (LHD) as I don't expect to see many river crossings here.... but lots of high mountain passes & plenty of power line cuts Will post up a pic once I get the box made up, am still waiting for the DB37 & cable loom from DIYAutotune to arrive.   9. There was an artical in one of the US off-road mags a while back about using a Sandon in this application. There is an oil return hole in the bottom of the rear body plate that needs a plug putting into it. If you do this there is no oil carryover into the compressor side. Hope that's useful for someone ;-)
  10. Swapped it onto JS0 & added a LED with shunt resistor to my Stim board. Tested & works fine :-)
  11. I have it on JS2 at present but looking at the setup screen in MT then JS0 seems a better way to go. Got a big bag of bits today from Digikey, just waiting for the loom to come from DIYAutotune then I can get the MS built into it's NEMA box for some weather protection. Thx, Andy
  12. Thought I'd throw this pic up for you guys... the wife took it in Feb this year.... we had about 17 feet of snow fall in town to that date. This year we've had snow on the ground for the past 3/4 weeks & am currently driving around on ice on most of the side roads. Good quality studded winter tires make a huge difference in driving on ice & snow, also having the CDL installed on my D2 reduces the work the traction control does too. Our first winter in Canada after emigrating in '07 from Derby was a real eye opener... and a steep learning curve. Now, as soon as the first snow arrives, on go the winter tires & out comes the winter travel kit. That includes a bug out bag, warm blankets, snow shovels & emergency food. Safe driving & enjoy the snow if you get some..... 4 wheel power slides are soooo much fun :~)

  14. Hi Lars, When I have truck tires siped here in Canada the tire shop just cuts slits in the tread blocks to about half the depth. For MT's we do the same, however as you say there no where near as good as real snow tires with studs.... that's what I run all winter on my D2. Cheers, Andy

My some what limited experience of having an F150 for the past 4yrs is.... buy the Dodge.... better build quality, more reliable (the overdrive brg failed at 90,000km.... cost me $3500cdn to get it fixed, and it's a known issue that Ford won't cover under warranty.... but they do sell an upgrade kit). One thing we do find good is the economy (4.6L gas engine), compared to my modified D2.... we take the F150 for trips shopping etc. but our nearest Costco is a 6hr round trip and collecting the outlaws from the airport is a 14hr round trip. Talking to friends that have the Dodge trucks, they say the Cummins are the best you can get, alot superior to the Fords. Hope that helps.... Andy

  17. The origional GM type IAC valve as fitted on the 3.9. Reading the MS-II site, the code/daughtern board now supports the use of these IAC valves. I already have EDIS running on my truck, installing the MS-II was the next step. Andy

'm also in the market for a set of beadlocks as I never received my Mach 5's from Matt..... only waited for over 7 months.... but that's another story Was looking at a set of rims from High Impact but the Stazwork ones would be so much nicer..... just the cost issue as you say..... Hi, When we moved to Canada we were told it snowed alot in town, this was the wifes truck about an hour after I brushed it off for the 4th time just before Christmas...... they were right it snows alot, about 18' this winter Andy.... in Canada where it snowed yesterday too.... all over the spring flowers
