  1. Hi guys My 2.5 td has developed a squeak from the tough area of the transmission tunnel or somewhere towards the back of the vehicle, sorry I can't be more specific but it moves depending on how my head is positioned. The squeak is the same sort of noise as a squeaking belt in the engine bay and occurs when the drivetrain is under load, usually when pulling up when it is a series of short squeaks that are reasonably quiet the it's fine until about 35-45mph In 5th gear occasionally in 4th where it reappears as a constant squeal. Also when accelerating through that speed range there is horrendous vibrations/juddering of the car that can be felt through the steering wheel and also makes the whole dash panel vibrate and rattle, will the two be connected? Any ideas what it could be or things to check? I also suspect my clutch is very close to giving up as it judderes/slips when reversing up any sort of incline and when pulling away on a hill start and occasionally judders during a quicker than normal start on flat ground. Any ideas guys? Cheers
  2. The rear cylinder is getting replaced ASAP so should hopefully not be to much of an issue. I find my friends jack Russell also gets wound up by light reflecting of watches? Jamie
  3. Now fixed :-) they where taking a lot if force and not moving so the piston got an "enthusiastic" treatment from landrover tool no.1 Cheers for the help
  4. Hi guys Took the brake drum off my 1989 90 to check on a leaking brake cylinder and stupidly pulled the pedal with the drum off, how do the adjusters work so I can pull the pad in a bit to get the drum back on? If anyone knows of pictures or diagrams they would also help massively. Thanks
  5. Tusks for all the replys and I've learnt a fair bit about the gearing as well. Should of worded this better, 60 is not top speed, I've had 75 before I chickened out at a corner I'm just looking for ways to drop the revs down so it can cruise at 60 rather than 50 for the longer trips. With regards to cooling system health shat should I be looking for? Thanks Jamie
  6. Cheers guys, I'm thinking that I'll fit the disco transfer box and then put a 200tdi in as soon as my insurance drops. For reference it's currently running a 1.4 transfer box in it Thanks
  7. I'll have a look later once the car parks a bit less busy to avoid getting run over lol, I mean it will do 60 and sit there without any real struggle but it just seems so noisy and to be revving a bit higher than I would like. Also the temperature sits just above Halfway in the white at 50 but sit at 60 for any period and it climbs up to just below the end if the white, this could be normal but it's my first defender so not sure. Cheers
  8. 2.5td 19j with standard lt77 and lt230 boxes both standard, hit 60 and it absolutely screams it's nuts off and the temperature soars. Looking to fit a 300tdi and possibly r380 in the future once my insurance drops. I have looked at the discovery transfer box option and think I will probably go with it soon after speaking to some people. Cheers Jamie
  9. My '89 90 is currently running standard size AT tyres and I was wandering what the next size up is for me next change to try and up the gearing a bit for those longer runs Cheers Jamie
  10. Not a series but my '89 90 is getting new wing a we speak which I'm regretting doing as I've developed quite a soft spot for the dents and scrapes :-(
  11. I'll check them ASAP, and Penrith uk Jamie
  12. It's the 19j, it smells like diesel and the back of the front diff is covered. Cheers
  13. Hi guys Is there anyone in ir near Penrith who could help me have a look at my defender with the 2.5 td engine to see if we can find out what the cause of a leak is? Cheers Jamie

  16. Hi guys, probably been covered to death so sorry for the repeat but what household(ish) items are best for soundproofing the can? I'm guessing some sort of carpet underlay then I'm liking the idea of rubber on top for ease of cleaning. Thanks for suggestions Jamie
  17. Hi guys Would anyone with a 19j be kind enough to take a picture of where the adjusting bracket for the alternator fits onto the engine block and whether it goes in front of or behind the spacer? Cheers Jamie

P.s I'll try to get the footage up ASAP Jamie
  19. I'll be keeping an eye out :-) can't wait to get out just I really don't trust this gearbox/clutch/master+slave cylinder at the moment. One or more of thems on the way out but it'll have to have minimum use till I get a chance to look next weekend :-(
  20. Sorry guys, I'm having to drop out due to vehicle trouble and having to save money to fix the trouble :-( Hope you's all have a good day Jamie
  21. I saw them today, just a shame I didn't have time to sit and wait in the que to actually get in Are they all in working order still? Just someone was telling me that 3 of them aren't fit to steam. Cheers
  22. Cheers for that, bleeding the system and refilling seems to have fixed it, just it'll need tipped up until I find out where the leak is and what to replace. Just out of interest how long should the clutch last? Cheers
