As most of you will know. I am after another more substantial engine to put into my range rover and at the moment the 3.9 sat in it has a snapped spark plug. The new better engine will not come until i have moved house so a bit off yet. To get the Rangie back on the road for the short while i am considering removing the head having the plug removed and replacing the head. The downside of this is the gaskets and studs are going to cost a fair bit from what i have seen it will blow a big hole in £100. The engine has probably covered 142,000 miles and i am scared of what else i will find that needs replacing when the head comes off. Or i can buy another V8 and put that in. i have found a 3.9, which should be a straight swap, a 4.2 will that be a straight swap? And a 4.2 supercharged not to keen on this as i have herd the super charger does not deliver an even mix of fuel/air to the cylinders, Is this true?)
What do you think is going to be the easiest/best option?
The second one is a saloon which is no good.
Are they front wheel drive? How do they last? as i know Omega's go to 200,000 with just servicing from work. Is yours a saloon or estate?
This is what is going to replace it (i think). Im really keen on the Omega. As they are fairly reliable, Got a local dealer for parts, Lots of car for the money, Very large estate, rear wheel drive, Im assuming the V6 would be cheaper than a Dieseasle. If i can get a half good one for 2-2.5k that would be great.
Hello all,
Im looking for a rapid car that i can enjoy and take out for a good thrash, but it has got to be a large estate to carry two large dogs in cages as part of my job. the limit would be £9,000-10,000 but the cheaper the better. i was thinking about a Subaru legacy turbo not sure on the different specs or a vauxhall omega V6. has anybody else got some ideas?
Yep my boy's "The Blues & Royals" My old boss was the only person to claim an aircraft kill in the Bristish Army in an armoured vehicle ever down there. B)
But you don't get any Armoured Squaddies down there, Driving off road is there trade. I spent six weeks learning to drive off road and then a kick in the back of the head everytime i did something wrong whilst driving. You tend to become very good very fast that way.
Cant see it myself, Armoured squaddies are normally very clued up on recovery techniques especially in mud, As tanks tend to get stuck in it and break down quite a lot. Plus every tank carries recovery ropes and a Kerr.
But it's a good story.
Im going to start the job this morning, what should i be looking out for as i strip the engine? i.e. wear and parts that need replacing. The engine has covered 140,000 miles and by the looks of things it has not been serviced very well. Do cylinder heads normally outlast the engine or do they need rebuilding from time to time? What parts i.e. gaskets and studs will i need to put it all back together? Which are the best ones? And the best place to get them?
