  1. Well if a new V8 is going to drink fuel like the current one is i won't be able to do 100 miles a year. As you are probably aware my 3.9 has a problem and it is using 1/4 of a tank a day in petrol to cover 26 miles I might start a new thread titled modest reliable engine
  2. If it was to stay a V8 it probably wont do that many miles. As i will have a company car but that is only for work. So i would use it occasionaly in the week and on my days off. Probably 4,000 miles a year max. Yes Al i did see your post thats what me thinking about a reliable V8 instead of a balls out one.
  3. Why is Steve letting you carry out your sexual desires on him?
  4. I've had a sleep and thought about it. I don’t need an ultimate engine I need something reliable with a fair amount of power that will run for years. Then the money i save over the ultimate engine i can spend on something else for it So do i: 1. Have my 3.9 rebuilt to a reliable/modest power spec 2. International 2.8 HS 3. 300tdi 4. Jap diesel Do you think there is much difference in life expectancy between a new and a rebuilt engine? Is there a compromise in running a V8 on LPG and petrol?
  5. Thought you were talking about my new dog I can hear him the other side of the estate and it wouldn't surprise me if you could hear him the other side of the world the amount of noise he makes
  6. That is a nice trailer, Does it come with the tent? Im assuming that you can't get them in the UK! It's like a caravan that you can take off road.
  7. Would a 4.6 with top hat liners be more unreliable than a 4.0 with the same?
  8. I think that’s because he forgets what he is meant to be doing That's the impression i have formed about him over the last week He does a good deal though B)
  9. Are they doing it for fun or is it some sort of high speed trialing?
  10. Have just had the garage on the phone and the fuel pump tested okay after being rebuilt. They have put a clear pipe in the system before the lift pump. The Wolf is sucking more air than fuel, so its now a case of tracking down the leak
  11. I have got my box of goodies from Lund. Now is there an easy way to work out which leads go to which plugs? Oh ive just realised they never sent the plugs. Steve does seem like an air head. Had better get on the phone!!!
  12. My mate is currently working for a company that is contracted into Land rover to monitor the quality of items. When i took my Wolf around to his house he stood on the passenger side and said i will show you a fault with this. He walked around to the driver’s door and showed me a big casting mark in the driver’s door hinges. Now remember my car was built in '97 by LRSV and they still have the same quality problems. How hard can it be to have the casting changed or move the manufacture to a different company? Obviously too hard for land rover to do in 9 years
  13. I dont know. Its got to last a long time so it could be anything I may ask it to make the dinner one day It has got to be reliable i suppose the first thing would be.
  14. Ultimate for my needs is an engine that will last a lifetime with servicing and without major surgery. Be able to do what ever i ask of it. Also be an object of desire
  15. I don’t think you can compare those bikes to a Jap 4x4. As when we talk Jap 4x4 you are normally talking near to if not the very top of the product line. All of hose bikes you refer to are budget or near the bottom of the product line. Which are built to a price not quality. Im sure if you owned a Fire blade or GXSR1000, you wouldn't have very many problems at all. I know because my dad owns them. He used to be very big into classic British bikes but one day he borrowed a Jap bike and swore then he would never own another British bike again. The collection was sold and a GSX-r 1100 was brought instead.
  16. Al, I now see your point about price. If we all modded a Defender to be the Ultimate off roader and price was not a problem, from the ground up, how much of it would still be Land rover? Not much i would imagine
  17. I really do rate the relibailty of the Jap stuff. But i dont think they make anything simple enough to easily turn into a hardcore off roader If they did i think i would have brought one. On the ther hand Land rovers are a whole way of life that you don't get with the Jap stuff.
  18. I hate to swear on here but the whole car seems like a good idea. But i dont think it would last 15 or so years
  19. Sorry, But if it is going to be a new engine it's got to wait until after the house move.
  20. I put a Poll in to try and get an idea of peoples opinions. But i messed it up and forgot to put other in it Mods can you help me out with that one? Thanks.

  22. Steve, The range rover bumper is very nice. Who made it?
  23. To be honest i am now leaning towards a diesel. As a petrol would need LPG for the long trips, this will be my only car if i keep buying expensive things for it i would not have the tanks underneath as they would be vulnerable off road and i detest having a tank in the load bay. It's more to go wrong as well. All of the upgrades i am under taking i am planning on having for a very long time. The next reincarnation of my Rangie i am hoping will last me out. So the next engine will have to be a brand spanker, so apart from servicing i don’t have to worry about it. I have a not too old ZF auto in the Rangie at the moment from Ashcroft, so i would like to keep that if at all possible?
