  1. Err, was it a 6 wheel disco by any chance. If so i know something about it. In fact i know something more than a bit about it.
  2. Ive never done the job myself but it is a well known problem, the springs as i understand it go in the lock mechanism itself.
  3. ERR886 bolt boost capsule, on the injector pump page.
  4. Most Disco have taper rollers top and bottom in the swivels which will have no inherant damping(resistance to turning), defender has railco at the top which does have damping effect. So from experience a coil conversion on an 88" with RRC/D1 type axles which had the damper mounted defender style not RRC/D1 style suffered from shimmy on the R/H front wheel that could not be cured by any tracking or preload setting, the damper was working thro 3 track rod ends. It was only cured by re fitting the damper as per RRC/D1 on the diff to track rod. So if your Disco has railco top bushes then it would be ok on the drag link but if you have taper rollers at the top then dont be supprised if the R/H front has a shimmy.
  5. Yes the bellhousings will interchange, the 2.5 will be a better bet than the 2.25 as it is a good bit better in the torque department and slightly up on BHP as well. Oh and the rad will need changing as the fittings are in the wrong position on a 6 pot rad when it is coupled to a 4 pot.
  6. Series hub flange bolts 3/8"BSF or 19/32"AF. " Half shaft nut 5/8" BSF " Spring Shackle bolt 13/16" AF " Spring Shackle nut 7/8" AF " Metric U bolt nuts 19MM AF
  7. Im on the hunt for a Salisbury casing spreader, (tool number 18G 131C & 2 pegs number 18G 131F) to use to get the diff out of my front axle, has anybody in the midlands got one that i can beg the use of? or buy if the price is agreable. I have already tried the local Landy main dealer as well as a Ford(transit) commercial main dealer, also the local landy garage that does off road prep but no luck. The other possibility is a dimensioned drawing of the tool so i can make one. Oh im in Rugby Warwickshire.
  8. My two penneth is that if parts say 'County' on the box then the box is the best bit and the contents are only fit for the scrap bin.
  9. No you dont as 109" rear cylinders are also 88" front cylinders. So no adaptors needed at all.
  10. Channel 5 this evening disco vs renault people carrier, ouch.
  11. Well they will fit but use the 1" cylinders on the rear to keep the front rear balance.
  12. Over adjusted brake, heat transfer from drum to hub:rolleyes:
  13. Go for the 7.50's or 238/85 x 16, ive been there with RR diffs, admittedly with a 2.5nad, and wouldnt go back there again as it was hopeless for trailer work or pulling away up hill.
  14. Having got no ware asking this question of LR technical i will ask it here. Does any body know for sure what the material spec and heat treatment(if any during the manufacture) is of the outer swivel housings on series axles.
  15. The bulkhead outriggers are shorter & the mountings are closer together due to the narrower bodywork.
  16. The difference is further back at the bulkhead outriggers so dont worry about it.
  17. Hear hear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Ive got a pair of thin flange 10 spline axles. The fronts are 24 spline in the flange but 10 in the diff. The rears externally look the same as the 24 spline variant but are definitely 10 spline in the diff.
  19. Rear prop shaft has sliding joint to the gearbox end, front prop shaft has sliding joint to diff. If the front is fitted with the sliding joint to the gearbox the gaiter can catch on the bellhousing cross member at full axle droop.
  20. Late 200tdi had the thin 24 spline flanges on the front with the flat rear shafts but they were still 10 spline in the diffs. So 200tdi = 10 spl & 300tdi = 24spl
  21. If as you say the flange is able to be moved in any direction other than rotary & you dont know what you are doing with it repair wise then get a rebuilt unit as running with that much play will have done some damage to the crown wheel & pinion.
