  1. anyone know the name or code for this D2 paint, its metallic and looks almost like a burnt orange in certain lights. its similar but not the same as the original RR sport launch colour? DSC_8332 by harrylessman, on Flickr
  2. the gasket on the throttle housing is a weak spot that looses coolent, mines gone twice now so last time i just by-passed it. its designed so a flow and return pipe come from the rad and flows over the fuel in the housing stopping it freezing in winter. the 2 pipes can just be joined together...
  3. Hey chaps is it do- able to fit +2 springs on standard height shocks, cars a D2 V8 converted to coils.. Cheers
  4. yeah thats rings a bell, cheers. i did have a pretty trick D1 commercial before the 90. it had +5's etc a1-22 by harrylessman, on Flickr
  5. cool. dont think ill be going 35's on mine may look at the Kumho KL71 or BFG's with a 2 inch lift, would like to keep the ace if possible too. quite like the D44 Disco 2 bumper front and rear. not a every day car anymore as also have a Saab now so i got a pretty much free run on the Disco. trouble is its a pretty nice car as is with only 65k on the clock
  6. very nice, had the same on the 90 i just sold whats the spec on your Disco then, how did you wedge those 35's on it? ps watch the creepys in the wet, they can be a bit interesting my old 90 DSC_6784 by harrylessman, on Flickr my Disco DSC_8332 by harrylessman, on Flickr
  7. yep thats pretty much what im thinking. is it yours? im interested in what size those creepy crawlers are?
  8. Thanks for the replys do i have to do anything with the ACE when i fit a 2 inch lift or is there enough play in the pipes etc? cheers
  9. Hey all Well today is the day i sold my modified 90 , the wifes now got a Saab convertible and im having her Disco 2 V8 ES to do with what i want So my 90 was pretty extreme but i dont want to go over the top with the Disco as its a really nice car. Im thinking safari snorkel, winch, +2 lift with some decent on/off road tyres etc kind of G4 style.(cars a burnt orange metallic colour) im after some advice on what to uses suspension wise as car has ACE fitted and dont no how that works with a lift, currently have coils all round as removed air springs already. also recommendations for some decent tyres and max size with a +2 lift, car currently has 18 inch alloys so may keep them if i can get tyres that size otherwise ill have to get some 16's.. any pics of modified D2's or links would be great.. cheers
  10. its confirmed, was a duff (new) thermostat im picking car up tomorrow. not sure if it was a genuine one or not but was £18 so could be a clue in the price... better than a new Engine
  11. Might have got lucky here, garage thinks the problem is the new thermostat they fitted. top hose gets red hot, bottom hose is stone cold as is the rad. they have ruled out the water pump or airlock and have said there convinced its not the gasket or block. will know tomorrow when new stat arrives. Fingers crossed
  12. yeah thanks to be honest most if not all the basic stuff has now been checked and ruled out, other than going over all of the basics again just to double check which will be done next week then the next step is heads off for a look at the gaskets.. cant moan really as its the wifes car, and ive spent way more cash on my 90
  13. never said i was going too, but then again mines only got 60k on the clock had it for several years and has no other issues, pretty much mint condition ES premium in metallic Bronze Orange with lightstone piped leather will then have a brand new engine with warranty and will only owe me about 3k. or could spend 3k on another one with more millage and loads of problems i dont no about and the engine could do the same at any moment
  14. thanks ill check the pipes etc, to be honest if its the HG ill be quite relived as thats a lot cheaper than a new block. whats worrying is it had no build up to this problem as you would expect with a HG going, just boiled up with no warning. fingers crossed, should no early next week..
  15. yes been double checked, had water pump off and that seemed ok and water is circulating but could be the impeller seizing under load and when hot (finger crossed) other wise its looking more serious. weird though as no miss fire, no coolant lose heater works fine no oil in water etc just fine one day then boiled the next, cars never had a problem before other than normal service parts.. i think its pressurizing due to sucking in air some were and thats what blew the throttle housing gasket (weakest link) then bi passed that so then blew a hole in the rad (next weakest link)... gonna be into 3k plus if its a new block, dont no if it would be worth spending that on a 10yr old Disco
  16. yeah thats been done a few times but still cooking its self..
  17. Hey all got some serious issues with the wifes D2 V8, tuesday night she over heats and wife pulls over and AA recovers, get home and i top up coolant which was almost completely empty and notice the gaskets gone on the throttle housing and waters spurting out so i think thats all it is. next day i decide to divert throttle housing to get rid of the gasket problem forgood as second time in 2yrs its gone and think car will be fine. then drive car about 2 miles and boils straight up again and i find big hole in rad, fit brand new rad and state then drive 2 miles and boils up yet again!!, have checked water pump and seems ok as water is getting around the system rad cap ok etc. Cars at a local specialist garage and next week there going to re check the obvious thing and if nothing wrong heads are coming off to check gasket and if thats ok then its sounding like the block cars a yr 2000 model 4ltr thor engine with 60k on the clock, its not been loosing any water and not miss firing and no smoking so in other words no other sign of head gasket or block symptoms, other then the boiling up its running 100 percent perfect, engine clearly seems to be pressurizing and boiling up rather than loosing and water then boiling up.. any views on this?
  18. I run that size tyre on my 90 with a +3 lift and QT arches, drives fine to me and will do 70. Off road isn't an issue in low box as the ratios are all the same it's high range that's different on defenders compared to discos etc Only thing on mine is it's not on it's original transfer box so it's possible it could be a disco one giving a different high range although I'm fairly shaw it was a defender box we fitted...
  19. i know 4 and 6 bolt boxes are a straight swap for sure as have done it a few times, but ive always thought the 3 bolt is different...
  20. Put the tester on the battery terminals with engine running, should get around 14.5 volts...
  21. were does the sensor fit, do you have to drill and tap the turbo or manifold?
  22. ditch the BM and buy a new or late Disco 3 or 4 diesel and no less than top of the range, it will do everything you want, looks great and feels great to drive. i think you will regret buying a Freelander, no offence to any owners here but to me the Freelander is the poor relation and going from an 09 M sport to a freelander cant see you being happy mate. some years ago we went from a Scooby to a then current Disco 2 XS, wasnt top of the range and to loose my scoob for it i ended up regretting id not bought the top spec disco, 6 months later i traded it for another Disco this time top model ES Premium and never gave the scooby another thought...
