  1. what... prise the solenoids apart?? do they open like boot polish tins?? (only thing i could think of with a ridge at the top)! it didnt make any clicking or anything but i did briefly short one of the solenoids by touching the wires together on it and it clicked..... tried whacking the jump leads straight onto the motor too but they just gave off sparks and i got moaned at for nearly melting the rug!! this is doing my nut in!! i am probably the least patient person in the world and it does not help!!!!
  2. tried the manual but cant make a lot of sense of it.... fathomed out which wire should be which colour and still no further!! no idea whats wrong......
  3. its red.... think i tried this info nothing happened... connected a lead between A & f1 and a positive to f2 and nothing connected lead between A & f2 and positive to f1 and nothing.....
  4. i just bought a superwinch husky off ebay from someone a 3 hour drive away.. cant get it to work now!! not sure if its just me being a spaz or not though so here goes! i thought just connect these two wires to jump leads and it will work... but no! the 3 wires to the remote control had been yanked off but they are labeled so easy enough to reconnect... still not working though!! 3 fat black cables go to winch.. 3 skinny cables with white covers to remote.. i thought big red one to battery live and little skinny black one with eye terminal to earth... what am i doing wrong chaps?? and pics of the winch if it helps!! yes it is in my living room and yes the missus does mind!! please help so i can get it working and outside onto my lanny!!!
  5. my mate rolled his rangie classic and bought the isuzu bighorn 3.1 diesel auto because he needed a motor quick... changing filters etc is a bit more fiddly than on lannys.. i figured its because the men in japan have smaller hands than the men in solihull!! it towed my car trailer with my discovery on it really well (to my dissapointment) and it has had the auto box messed with so it does around 38mpg under normal driving condititons... has 7 seats too which comes in handy sometimes!! good car all round but i personally would not have one because it would be like cheating on my lannys!!! gotta love the green oval!!
  6. i sat in one sunday afternoon and watched this.... like you say it is amazing what you can do with what appears to be no budget and technical assistance from plenty of people and a workshop with all the gear in it!! i have a full time job, mend them on my drive in the cold on my own with a big hammer and a screwdriver thats broken... dont think i will order the £££££ pipe bender to start making cages for projects yet!!!!!!
  7. post piccys mate!! the more info you get up the more likely it is you find it!! what wheels/tyres etc??
  8. i remember now! took my old axle off my mates nackered old rangie and it had said bolts in it!! will have to go shopping for nuts and bolts!!! its not my daily driver so i can take one out and take it somewhere to match it up!! cheers for the advice and once again lr4x4 saves some swearing and spanner rash!!
  9. all my discos have had them and they all end up getting removed because when you use them they just flood the road infront of you a bit like a road sweeper!! waste of time completely!!
  10. cheers for that.. i have a big box of new 17mm and 19mm nuts and bolts of various lengths for this reason!! I tend to cut the nuts off to get them out and dont even try to put old ones back in anymore!!
  11. i have just put the blue (bearmach i think) on my new one today they seem to be s bit stiffer than the britpart ones i have on my other one... not tested them off road yet though!! got them off ebay but good old paddock spares wil probably be your best bet!!
  12. i have recently got another disco 200tdi.. 5 door this time!! i started lifting the suspension today just 2" springs and shocks on the rear today and it was hard to get the springs in... the axle will hardly budge.. i think it is the A frame bushes stopping it coming down any further.. can you just replace these with softer ones?? i will be putting 2" blocks under the springs like my other one has but they went in dead easy on that one... advice would be appreciated before i just dive in and break something else!!
  13. i love my manual boxes too much!! i know that the serious off roaders use auto boxes but its just personal preference for me!! think autos are probably better for the reason that if you try to change gear in the sticky stuff in a manual you will probably get stuck.... you will never have this in an auto!! still i only have 200tdi motors and i have never come across an auto 1 yet!!
  14. oh yes!! a bit wider and taller than standards should do the job nicely without spending wads of cash on huge ones!!
  15. i like it....... if fact i may even do one of the discos pink.... i am not a homosexual just like to be different.....
  16. i never got this "increases power and economy" thing..... if you have more power then you tend to use it therefore drinking more fuel... i just got my van chipped at a local pro-chips agent... he re-maps anything that can be done.. like my mates warrior pick up my citreon relay a bmw 5 series diesel and a diesel focus on the day i was in there.. my van goes much faster now but fell from 29.4mpg average to 23.8....
  17. my last snap-on one was £5000.... it was no where near the size of that one!!! i think i might go and sell my ass to get this!! any takers?? i will wash it first!!!!
  18. 119mph with my little tyres on.... turbo wound up and silicone hoses.... not sure i would want to go any faster in a 19 year old top heavy motor!!!!!!!!!!! faster than my mates old td5 off the line and top end too!!!! and if you read the stickers correctly they say.... you can go fast i can go anywhere!!!
  19. i only have landrovers with the 200tdi motor in them.. had head gasket problems on the 300s more than once.. td5 was gutless and didnt like water and v8 petrols definately dont like water!! on my last outing in the 200tdi disco i got stuck in a lake which filled the car up to just below the top of the steering wheel.. the intercooler filled with water and the barrels were full too..... i took the top hose off the intercooler and towed it about 200 yards in 4th gear and it started.. revved it up to spit the water out of the cooler and connected the hose up again.............. still starts first turn of the key now.... just the water-logged stereo does not work!! 200tdis cant be beaten!!
  20. cant believe only 97+me have signed up................ come on folks its worth a try...... what the hell else would you do on a sunday????????????
  21. saw on the telly this morning and been on the radio all day that if you own an un-insured vehicle you will automatically be fined £100............ i have a number of vehicles on sorn at the moment with no insurance on them as they are off public highways on private property..... does this mean i am facing a few £100 fines or what?? can anyone shed some light on this please?? thanks in advance ste.
  22. no real point in changing the axle to salisbury one if you cant use the proper 110 springs though is there?? seeing as the springs are in between the weight to be towed/carried and the axle???
  23. you can make just about any part from any vehicle fit a landrover so a 300 dash in a 200 is like changing your shoes!!! as for wiring if they both have the same spec and gadgets(wont be many of these in an old disco!) it is even easier!! especially if you have a donor car for bits of loom if required... just label every plug you take out so you know where they need to be connected back up to..
  24. a plethera of information!! i love this forum!! i have also learned people convert salisbury axles to disk brakes and use them on the disco for better weight carrying/towing abilities!! probably not a cheap or easy option but probably better in the long run..
  25. would enquire about h/d rear springs off a 110 then.... someone on here will know spring ratios and part numbers and no doubt will be along soon!! i was told by a number of people who tow plant and large trailers i could not tow that much with the disco so i bought the 110.... more money wasted i suppose!!!!!!!!!!!!!
