  1. Certainly showed how difficult those big HGV's are to drive.... respect to all who do it for a living.
  2. Lansalot and pugwash you are of course entitled to your opinion just as I am to mine. I would just add that in doing so you do make as massive assumption about my right to (or not to) speak on behalf of those with disabilities I don't see the need to justify it so I won't....... And with that I will sign off but for good I think this time. Hopefully the mods will now lock this thread as it has gone way OT. And while your are on feel free to remove/delete (whatever you need to do my forum membership as this genuinely isn't a place I want to be. Many thanks.
  3. Me too and I've only been here since June 08. You've clearly been here a lot longer, but for me when forum members start making jibes at the expense of those with disabilities I'm afraid it's time for me to pack up too.
  4. While getting your coat you might want to pick up an application form for some equality and diversity training. The post you made is actually quite offensive and not really excused by the introductory apology. I do think the mods need to really lock this thread now as it generating some really 'dodgy 'posts.....
  5. If I needed to know how to change a paper gasket (and I would!!) this would make the post worthwhile. I really hadn't appreciated the forum was for only 'technically excellent' posts. Pity really as said by wall street above "Merely an observation but this forum is hugely snobbish towards amatuers principally around fabrication skills and cheque book off roaders. If the majority want this to be a coded welders (i dont even know what a coded wleder is nor do i care) ego contest then it will be a very sad day indeed" If somebody doesn't need to know how to change a paper gasket the answer is:- Don't bother readin' the post.
  6. I actually was going to risk the wrath of the forum and say I quite liked the look of them.... But never at that price -
  7. Was happening to me with Firefox (Default browser), Google Chrome and IE7 (all with Vista though) However flying at the moment.....
  8. Seems to be a very intermitent issue - I could not get on at all 15 mins ago but now have just got on in lightning quick time???
  9. Sorry but I can't help drawing a comparison between this:- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7694989.stm and this http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=33545 It is anazing how somethings can escalate so quickly and result in serious falling out, claims and counter claims etc, etc, Feel free mods to lock this too but it strikes me how easy it is for a misunderstanding or disagreement to escalate and be taken by either, both or all parties out of context. Lets just chill out there!!! - for gawds sake it's only about fixing Land Rover's...none of this is about a cure for world famine, ..... or solving issues like my daugter losing her home........ now that would be something really worth arguing about.
  10. Never ever dealt with them, never needed to just yet, but IF all the stuff on here about interlectual property theft and the like is true (and I honestly don't or do know that it is) I can't think of anything much worse than ripping off anothers ideas and selling them as your own. Yes business can be a dog eat dog world but there is a place for ethics too. Perhaps this companies downfall is indicative of a lack of those, perhaps the companies that will survive the current situation will be those with sound business ethics, though of course good customer service will see some through too. It sounds as if Scorpian had niether.
  11. That is really weird, complete opposite. I did want to emigrate to Oz but at 50 next birthday now too old.. :(
  12. Another vote for 'looks good as it is!!' I really like it..
  13. Should have added this would be in a vehicle which I am considering which is a 90 truck cab. The option I am considering is for two rear inward facing folding seats for the very occasional need to carry more than two passengers. It would be very occasionally given this would be under a canvas top too!! (The prime use of the vehicle would be for a business opportunity which is on hold at the moment until the economy picks up). 98% of the time the seats would be tipped up to make use of the 'tub' for carrying. Just every now and then I would need to carry a passenger or two - hence the query. It would never be kids, and if it was they'd go up front with the adult(s) in the back. Thanks for the input.
  14. Can I confirm the legality of rear inward facing seats fitted to a post March 2006 vehicle. My understanding these are legal for anybody over 12 years and at least 1.35 metres in height as long as lap belts are fitted for each passenger. Is my understanding correct?? The Nene Overland site refers to as this "may" still being legal... why might it not be?? Mucho gracias in advance....
  15. Thanks all , I think I've got it now.
  16. So - on a used vehicle the +VAT thing to a private seller or someone not registered for VAT means not a dot. My understanding on this all is - If I am a private buyer I can ignore the +VAT bit, but if I am registerd for VAT I will have to pay the VAT when I then sell the vehicle on. Is this correct? Thanks for the responses so far.
  17. Have been spending this afternoon looking at Truck Cab Defenders (sorry if posted in wrong forum feel free to move) - mainly looking at Approved used on Landrover.com and Nene Overland - when I should really be tidying the garden for winter.... Anyway Some are listed as price plus VAT and other are not. My understanding is that if it was to be used for business purposes and you were VAT registered you can claim the VAT back hence the listing showing +VAT so you will know what the actual price will be. However if this is the case why are some shown as plus VAT and some are not. If it is not listed as such does it mean you can't claim the VAT back. I could of course ring my friendly local main dealer and ask but I am sure somebody knowledgeable will pop up here. Many thanks.
  18. Just trawled back through this thread and it makes very interesting reading - especially liked MOG's comparison video on Youtube. I do have to say and this incredibly subjective but the td5 does 'sound' better, more decibels yes but it's an incredibly distinctive sound a td5, you recognise it anywhere.... - the Puma version sounds well....... like a Transit van but what can you expect. It is also interesting though that I didn't clock many issues in the thread with the reliability of the Puma engine in the thread, some yes but most issues seemed to be with stuff that have affected Defenders for years if not decades - it could be therefore have been a good decision of Ford to use this lump or maybe it's a bit early to make that call.
  19. As the title says really - How easy - sensible and practical is it to 'retro' fit a 300tdi to a newer td5 90. Surely this must be a nightmare - I guess mechanically it all mates up does it??? but the electrics must be a chore. What happens at MOT time (emissions) Work colleague has what he thinks is a cracked piston (Understood to be common) and is inclined to go for a 300tdi, rather than a straight swap - I think he has probably lost the plot especially as I am going to get roped in to labour/grease monkey on the project. Any comments help or advice appreciated.
  20. I heard his on Radio2 this morning and thought what " why refer to a 4x4" But pleased to see the BBC have revised. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7626288.stm And at the time of posting make no ref. to the vehicle involved being a 4X4
  21. That's another detailed and excellent post. I couldn't go anywhere near a job that complicated just yet but just a question on the re-use of head bolts I remember being charged for new bolts when having cylinder heads removed (not the same vehicle) - I take it from this post re-use is OK or would you recommend renewal Les. Cheers,
  22. Thanks everybody for the replies - I understand a bit more about this now, from recollection it was a bulkhead issue in some of the ones I have sat in.
  23. What is the score on seat/leg room on Defenders and Series Landrovers. Some seem to have 'some' adjustment back and fore but others are fixed and have none. Have looked at a couple of series vehicles but due to my 'ample girth' have found it difficult to get comfortable behind the wheel, what do I need to do do to add some rearward adjustment to seats on Series LR's and Defenders. (posted in both forums) My mates td5 Defender seems to have some adjustment back and fore, so whats the score with older vehicles. Many thanks and apologies for such a basic question.
