Turbocharger
Hi all, A group of us are heading to mid-Wales for a camping weekend, a day of laning and some time out with the kids. I'm looking for pub food and camping nearby where we can have a fire and a beer while the kids are (hopefully) asleep. I can trawl the websites but a recommendation would be invaluable. I'm looking around Bala but happy to be swung north or south. The lanes will hopefully be tame, scenic and aren't the focus of the weekend. SPendrey
Wouldn't that be a better weekend if it were... "A group of us are heading to mid-Wales for a camping weekend, a day of laning and some time without the kids"
Boris113
Slightly biased as my uncle runs the place but Pant-Yr-Onnen is a nice spot, good/clean facilities and plenty of space right on the shore of the lake, it's about 3 miles from Bala. They don't open until 24th March though so it depends when you are going. http://www.balacamping.co.uk/
FridgeFreezer
Don't know about open fires (fairly sure they're OK) but the camping at Dan-Yr-Ogof showcaves is what we use twice a year for Seven Sisters and it's a good site, and the Gwyn Arms over the road do excellent food.
Jon W
Depending which way you want to go it may be a bit far over but my local in Graigfechan, Bala is 35-40 mins Llangollen 20mins. http://threepigeonsinn.co.uk/ is nice good pub, beer food etc. Campsite situated just below the pub so far enough away that it’s quiet. Never stayed there as have always managed to stagger Home so not sure what it’s like. Or I know of a campsite near Harlech which is a great spot but not close to a pub
task
We've stayed at Owen Camping a couple of times, might be a bit far south for you. There is a pub/hotel a short walk up the road if it's still open but I've never been. Other pubs would be a drive. They're happy for people to have fires. No toilets or electric if they're a requirement. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Owen/@52.7278813,-3.9114906,17.08z/data=!4m8!1m2!2m1!1sToolstation!3m4!1s0x0:0x7a7736fd380ed075!8m2!3d52.7273898!4d-3.9130097 Edited March 4, 2018 by task
Turbocharger
Thanks guys. I think we've settled on the Crown at Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr, camping next to the pub and there's even a ford to access www.thecrowninn.wales Three Pigeons came up as one of the other favourites too, the ford swung it though! I'll let you know how we get on.
Jon W
You should enjoy it there, have never been but pass it a lot and it looks a nice spot. Some lanes right on your doorstep pretty much too. Can give you a few tame lanes if interested. Llyn Alwen is a 7mile walk or cycle around if looking for non Land Rover related activities or llyn Brenig. Awesome go kart track on the A5 at Glan y gors. or bounce below further afield probably better for the kids Jon
