simonpelly
Hi Folks, Appreciate this topic has been done to death before, i.e. headlights on a Defender 300 Tdi not being switched via relays. The topic is as old as time itself. However, really pleased that we've taken the time to undergo this project. So, here are some notes from our solution. https://pellylandroverdefender.blogspot.com/p/headlights.html Simon...
Ex Member
Your lights are easy to change because there are no headlamp bowls. Earlier trucks have the lamps inside bowls with no access from the rear. Edited January 21, 2019 by Red90
simonpelly
Interesting - not heard of headlamp bowls. The manual that came with our Defender stated to remove the lamps, bezel, etc... Assuming headlamp bowls are something other than the rubber boot that covers the headlamp.
Retroanaconda
You can buy full bowls, where access is only possible from the front, or the half-bowls which are open at the back. The latter make changing a headlight bulb a 30-second job rather than pulling all the lights out for it. Much better design.
Ex Member
Bowl style. Up to the 300TDI. Then they stopped using the bowls. Edited January 22, 2019 by Red90
western
Recently replaced the plastic bowls on mine, the adjuster screws ripped the thread out of the plastic, bought new metal bowls instead.
simonpelly
Might be tempted by new bowls, although probably a nice to have as opposed to necessary. Was wondering about the quality of the reflective surface 20 years. My thinking being that most of the light is actually reflected forward than projected directly? Would not like to have to use the adjuster screws either as they look most definitely seized. It'd take some care not to strip/shear threads on the screws and/or the housing.
