Geojake
Hi all, New to the forum with a 1989 90 200tdi that is getting all my attention during the coronavirus lockdown. Life could be worse. I want to fit a stage one series, twisted style, front to the the old girl. The kits that Twisted and Supertweaks do cost a lot of money for essential series light surrounds and a metal plate to cover the front of the light panel. The surround I can source but I’m struggling with the plate. I’m thinking about getting some replicas pressed but wondered if anyone knew how there are fixed to the landy, or had any knowledge of them at all? Links for reference and images below. https://www.twistedautomotive.com/store/product/stage-one-grille-set-workshop-fit https://www.supertweaks.com/land-rover/land-rover-defender/land-rover-defender-exterior-accessories/land-rover-defender-classic-stage-one-light-surrounds-pair Cheers Jake
ThreePointFive
They'll be held on by the screws through the lights and the bezels, looking at them. Though it appears there are holes bottom left/top right that would pick up on standard Defender surrounds, they just haven't used them. Could be as it's just for demonstration, but it makes it look 'cleaner' than if secured properly as you would.
miketomcat
Why not use cut a flat plate to fit in the recess on the wing then fit your light surrounds. Personally I think this will look better and it doesn't need to be pressed. Oh and you can see the fixing holes in the picture that they haven't fitted screws to so they are using the light surround screws. Geojake
Thanks all. I’m thinking about maybe trying it with the existing stock plastic surround, taking a dremmel to the Iip and seeing if it fits. I’m concerned it may be too thick, that is the issue. Good spot with the 4 corner holes. Agreed would be better to use the light recesses and the bezel surrounds. Will have a play and post some pics! neil110
Why do you need the plate? It is only there to cover a hole in the later type front ends. Presumably your 200 will not have such holes? ThreePointFive
If you think these are bad, don't look for aluminum billet windscreen brackets, and I've seen £400 door hinges. Edited April 6, 2020 by ThreePointFive

I also have a lot more screw holes in from various previous owners that have don’t all sorts, I can fill these holes but would be easier to blank them off with that plate. I will try without and see what I can get away with but was worth asking in here. I’ll try and cut some out anyway as a trial Cheers Jake Edited April 6, 2020 by Geojake

Especially when after a bit of searching I can get 2 light surrounds brand new for 25 quid. As I am finding out, anything associated with and marketed for a Defender costs $$$$
paime
Does anyone have any spare door hinges or windscreen brackets lying around they don't need any more? Even better if they've got the pins removed and are in 2 parts. I'd like to get a cost from a local fab shop here i know for billet aluminium replacements purely out of interest. You'll need to take some images for me in a certain way so i can create a 3D model but it's easy stuff.
