western
My stumpy R380 has slave cylinder 591231 same as LT77, I have pushrod FTC4229 Have you got the correct release bearing UJT100210
Sigi_H
Just another question. Is the gear lever mechanism on top the same as on the LT77 or is it to change as well?
western
The gear change lever & turret is the same, the difference is within the gearbox, reverse location & Syncro on reverse.
trickydicky
yes iv got the release bearing UJT100210 and iv used the lt77 pushrod . on the lt77 the pushrod pertruded 15mm out of the bell housing .this morning i redused the length by another 8mm and iv now got the slave cylinder fitted and the clutch seems to be working but i wont know until i start it up and try and change gear. is this normal for this conversion ? western
Don't think so, the stumpy R380 was a retrofit to earlier pre Tdi 4 cyl petrol & diesel engines the pushrod I noted above is the same as used in the earlier models.
trickydicky
can anybody tell me if the clutch arm pivot pin is shorter ? iv used the 200tdi pin
western
These are the clutch release arm & associated parts, first on is 4 cyl LT77 & second is 4 cyl R380 (stumpy variant) The ball pivot is different as you can see.
trickydicky
on the ashcroft website they say you need to use Clutch fork pivot(FTC4173&FTC4174) which seems to be from an na

I'm so pleased with it it seems to pull much better than the lt77 each gear has a much better range . thanks for everybody's help and comments
western
Glad it all fitted & works, I've had a stumpy R380 since Easter 94, its a muchnicer box to drive with than my old LT77, I've put a Syncro gear short shift turret & gear lever on to. Maverik
I've got a stumpy too, great box, also put the syncro short shift on it too, it's a nice conversion.
trickydicky
whats a syncro short shift ? who would supply them ?
Maverik
We got the name wrong, it's a slick shift. - just makes the gearstick "throw" slightly less- doesn't really allow faster gearshift as that's down to the health of your syncromesh! https://www.onlinegearboxparts.com/product/defender-lt77-slickshift/
