garrycol
What sort of cars does the Tomcat live in? Also does anyone know if the MGTF and the Lotus Elise or anyother car the K series engine is in have the same problems with the engine that the Freelander has? DEANO3528
Yes I think so. One of the directors at work bought an MGF, joined the owners register etc. Turned out the garage had it more than he did. He got rid of it about a year ago now and bought a Merc SLK Kompressor. jules
Lotus and the MGF have the same engine and problems as the freelanders. Rover tomcat coupe the quick one. The engine is based on the K series family
Tonk
if u go for the slightly later engine then it gets rid of the distributor at the end of the head cos it doesn't have one gotta be a good thing
Jon White
Er...........not exactly....... The 2litre turbo can be fitted into a car that had a 1.8VVC. Its been done with MGZR's for example. However the norm is to also change the box. The bellhousing is different although its the same PG1 box. I dont know alot about freelanders, but is the box the same as a car type box or is there a trasnfer box grafted on there somehow? If its a car type box it'd be pretty easy. If not you might be getting into swapping gearbox casings over etc, as the PG1 box doesnt have a bellhousing as such like a traditional landroer gearbox has. imspanners
The Rover Turbo is an M16 engine, not a K'series. It's basically the same engine as fitted to 2.0MPi Discovery However, as it's a Landrover you're putting it in, anything's possible. There's gotta be more room in the engine bay of a Freelander than in the Rover Coupé.
Turbocharger
MarcoCosic is the man to ask, but he's on placement in the USA for 12 months until September. I can confirm that the 2.0T is the same engine as the 2.0N/A Mpi unit that went into underpowered Discoverys.
DEANO3528
I wondered where he'd disappeared to. He is a fair old guru with the Rover car engines.
Jon White
Tomcat engine is a T series. The M series is the older engine fitted to the earlier (MK1) rover 800 series tickford turbos, and maestro/montego turbos etc. Marko runs a 2litre T series turbo mated to an LT77 using the bellhousing from a Sherpa vna (I beleive 2 litre). I'm not sure if this bellhousing is the same as that fitted to an MPi disco or not however. Jon
