Diesel_90 Posted August 18, 2007 Share Posted August 18, 2007 Hi, My dad has just bought a K reg 1993 300Tdi 90, with a LT77. The story goes that it is a genuine LR that was used as a promo vehicle. Its just got me thinking as to what gearbox it has got because the engine is in the correct position for a 300tdi with a R380. I thought it would be a disco box but the Hi-LO lever is in the correct place for a defender. Could it be a defender box with a disco shaft? what would the bell housing be? a disco one but its not the same pattern so maybe a longer defender LT77 one?. what rear main set up would it have, the same as the 200Tdi? Or could it be a 300tdi engine with a 200disco back plate and disco LT77 Bell housing with shaft?The latter seems to make more sense to me I didnt even know that LR made a 300Tdi on a LT77 untill my dad bought his, is this a rare thing? The engine is further back giving better weight distribution and room in the engine bay. If you use a military LT77, first gear is 10% lower. IMO, the LT77 bad rep is unfounded. It was a test vehicle for the 300Tdi and for Disc brakes!(on rear of defenders) and the engine number does point to it being the 28th and the gearbox points to a defender LT77 with a disco shaft and bellhousing its also got ARB brackets on the front and rear axle and NO Axle numbers not sure of splines yet as its got alloy wheels but i will find out later this week Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

On a production 300tdi, that plug is just a blank and the pipe is "T"ed into the pipe that connects to the waste gate actutaor on the turbo. You may not actually see the wastegate pipe as its "under and behind" the compressor housing - there is a spigot attached to the compressor housing to fed air into the wastegate actuator pipe. With "your" set up, boost for the injector pump is actaully measured after the intercooler, where as standard its measured at the compressor of the turbo before the intercooler.
