bullterrier
Hi, Im new to the board, so a big hi to everyone! I have just bought a freelander, 99 xedi. Its great apart from the rear driver side door decided not to open yesterday, after a good couple of hours spent lovingly cleaning her up!!! How ungrateful! The door mechanism does work, when the central locking is opened, it makes a noise and the button pops up, but the door wont open. Help! Also, there are 3 warning lights on the dash. hdc, abs,tc. I have been told these light up due to a faulty brake pedal switch. Is that true???? I hope so! Can anyone advise how to open the door? kind regards, Tony
potshot
Happy new Freelander....It would seem that this forum is mostly doom and gloom however, I am sure that you will enjoy your new car once you get the bad bits out of the way. Door....take the door card off and manually trip the latch, then work the mechanism several times to see what is happening...it might mean a trip to the breakers or even Rover to fix it properly...the other lights need addressing and the best way is to ask rover what they mean..."ABS" sounds expensive...."HDC is expensive but not urgent as you will only use it on severe hills I dont know what the last one is. Did you get a warranty with the car or was it bought privately....best bet short term is ring rover and get an idea of the codes and what it might cost to repair them
jules
Door what he said Lights Get it plugged in even if you fix the problem the car will need to be plugged in to a diagnostic to turn them off. its more likely to be a ABS sensor could just need cleaning up and refitting, or the plug inside the Gear stick for the HCD. Find a good local specialist as main dealers can be very unnecessarily expensive. Although its a Freelander it is still a Land Rover and can be fixed easily with a little knowledge and tool kit
Blippie
The most common cause of the "triad" of lights is the wire to the HDC switch coming adrift. Under the rubber gaitor around the gearknob is a wire connected to the switch. It may need reconnecting or soldering. ABS sensors can be clogged with mud or just damaged after off roading or kerbing on the school run. Chers Blippie

My rear drivers door did that refuse to open unless you opened it from the inside (checked the child lock) until one day it just decided to start opening again! hyperion
Hi, I have the same problem as described above (with the rear door) . Tried to get the door open from the inside, but this doesn't work. I removed the inner protection of the door and tried to feel with my hand to open the door from the inside. There are 2 levers (1 for the outside handle and 1 for the cable, thus inside handle). If I pull the whatever handle (inside or outside) the door won't open. The two cables seem to turn around the same part but what or where i can tilt the lock I don't know. Does anyone know how I can tilt the lock from the inside (which part i have to flip, shift or pull)?
david1701
I know this sounds obscene, but does it open if you kick / force it, my brothers disco went through a phase of the lock disengaging fine then the door sticking closed unless brute force and ignorance were applied. Just a suggestion, if the lovk doesn't click open don't even bother trying it
hyperion
So I need to try a jump kick, or just run head on into the cars door to get it open. . I'll keep you posted. If it takes a few weeks before you get a reaction it means i had a little hospital visit Just yeasterday the door opened once ???? But my kid was so helpfull to close it . Can it be that the opening motor doesn't turn the lock open far enough to give the lock free for manual opening? Then replacing the motor would be the best option I think. If it is a pure mechanical problem a good look and greasing could be helpfull I think. Has anyone experience in this?
hyperion
And yes it worked Davis 1701 . I bumped the car while opening and the door pops open. Removed the lock from the door. I cleaned and greased the lock (there where some oxidated parts). It works fine again (for now). Lock motor seems to work great (the alarm too). Many thanks.
