bellhousing

If that is the 5.7 v8 diesel otherwise known as the "Olds 350" or "Olds boat anchor" - don't bother. Chuck it in the bin and buy something else. A standard TDi LR engine is just as powerful, many times more economical and more reliable.

It has the reputation of being the worst diesel ever made. GM recalled it in the mid '80s after vast numbers of failures of heads, head gaskets, injection equipment and crankshafts. They retrofitted the 5.7 petrol version (Chev 350) in its place. Have a dig around on the net - loads of info out there.

Marks4wd adaptors sell a chevrolet adaptor plate to rr zf auto. Wasn't that a very unreliable engine?

Small block (350 cu.in.) Chevy V8 petrol is a very different beast to the Oldsmobile 350 diesel.

You might want to buy a few spare gearboxes to go with that

Also applies :P

The 5.7 petrol has a different bellhousing to the 5.7 diesel.

Really, you do not want to use this engine. Bhp between 105 and 125 depending on version, and torque between 278 and 305 Nm. These figures are shocking considering it is a 5.7l engine. A ZF4HP22 would be more than happy behind this.

By comparison - LR TDi - 111 bhp and 264 Nm and very tuneable.

The only advantage I can think of is that the olds 350 doesn't have a turbo, so instant power.
