Hi!

Guys, am looking for a used 1968 Series 2A LWB overdrive for the diesel engine. Does any one want to part with a good condition one. Or can anyone inform me where I can get 2nd hand ones or new ones?

If you're just looking to increase your final drive then diffs out of a later axle are cheaper than an overdrive unit. Ashcroft also used to do a set of transfer box gears that provided a different high-ratio.

What do you mean by later axle?

10 spline Range Rover / Defender / Discovery. I used to run a pair from a 90 in my SWB series but that was a Essex V6. Planning on fitting a pair to the SIII I'm building at the moment too, I have a Range Rover I'm breaking up for parts.

Although, as FridgeFreezer mentioned, possibly not such a plan with the old 2.25 Diesel engine. I also forgot that a Series LWB may well have a salisbury rear axle.

Just, as a note, I have a 2.25 diesel 1968 LWB Series 2a and the overdrive is definitely the way to go. The diffs would be too tall for the lower gears, and the high ratio transfer box kit was designed for use behind a v8, so again too tall for a 2.25. A LWB will be running 7.50's anyway, so whilst taller tyres are an option you would need to be looking at 255/85's or the like.

Just speaking from experience, but the overdrive is the right choice. Just a question of hunting round to pick one up. As has been said, pretty much any fairey overdrive will fit.
