the_mouse_man
True - but Toyota also make cars that you'd expect not to be so affected by the downturn; reliable, economical, cheap compared with some of the US stupid SUV stuff or luxury marques like Jag & LR that you'd expect to be hit hardest. Wot he said.....

Like Lexus and Landcruiser Amazons? ;) ;)
FridgeFreezer
Like Lexus and Landcruiser Amazons? ;) ;) Both of which are of course renowned for being unreliable and of poor quality

landmannnn
Actually Toyota in the US are quite biased towards the mid to full size SUV/pickups, FJ Cruiser, 4runner, Sequoia, Tundra, Tacoma, Amazon, most of these are either 4.7 or 5.7 v8. Add that to the Lexus range which is all upmarket cars, it is not that surprising that they are struggling.
the_mouse_man
Like Lexus and Landcruiser Amazons? ;) ;) A pretty predictable response, however I would guess this is about proportions.....the vast majority of vehicles sold by Jag and LR are in the luxury sector, the vast amount of products sold by Toyota are mainstream, hence as per my original post I think Toyota's hit is a real indicator of the problems we face, It's really not rocket science to comment that the hit is not going to be even greater in the division responsible for lexus and LandCruiser, I reckon anyone could work that out.
SteveG
A pretty predictable response, I obviously touched a nerve The point is, picking a bank, estate agent or a car manufacturer as a weather vane for impending doom is a bit useless. Each of those verticals have their own unique attributes and because Toyota is facing their first loss in their history doesn't mean we are all up a certain creek without a paddle. I was just adding some perspective to your original post. I'll sign off now on this post as you appear to think it was a personal attack, although this assumption may be wrong as it's easy to interpret the written word incorrectly. white90
Toyota can't be doing themselves too many favors selling the Pius at a reported loss In California they appear to be nearly every third car on the road.
