steveboat Posted January 6, 2009 Share Posted January 6, 2009 Hi all happy new year came to fit my rr rear axle for my disc brake conversion on 84 defender but have noticed the os shock absorber mounting bracket is on the rear of the axle is this normal or is it someones cockup on welding a new mounting onto the axle there dosent seem to be any sign of an old bracket that has been changed or cut off and the disc protector all bolts to it as well if this is the norm can you buy the brackets or do you cut the old one off a reweld cheers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It should just be a case of getting the brackets for the later rover disk brake axle and the correct bolts. There's loads of posts relating to doing this on here. If you do go down the axle swp route I would recomend blagging the use of a 4 post lift as I did. It feels a lot better being stood up when you do it this way. zulublue Posted January 7, 2009 Share Posted January 7, 2009 Ralph, If it was me I would go for either the welding option or another axle, I would not want to get to the possibility of having to check for say bearing etc when the repairs start keep it simple, I have put a 93 Disco axle on the back of mine and that's all I need to remember. muddy Posted January 8, 2009 Share Posted January 8, 2009 you cant put the RRC stubs on a 90 drum axle because the mounting faces are different, not forgetting that wont have anywhere to bolt the caliper to... You can buy the shock brackets ready to weld on for about a fiver from most lr shops aswell as the trailing arm brackets, spring seat mounts etc..... Will.
