jcb000
well iv been looking around and thought i should go with the Defender 110. They look awsome but i stumbled across the Tomb Raider LR special and i thought why shouldnt i try it as a project for my self. have loads of free time and might as well start some where. But i stumbled acorss one thing i like about it but want to kind of change at the same time. The Tomb Raider LR Special is just a 110 Hi Cap flat bed. A pic is below I like the idea of open to the eliments but i also want to be able to be warm and have it coverd at times as well. The only way i can think is a canvas top. Do you think that is the best way to cover it up at night and still be able to be open to the eliments? I wanna get all the info of what should be done on paper 1st then start the project. Any sugestions or ideas on what could be done? Cheers JCB
Hybrid_From_Hell
Tombraiders - you either love em or hate em I hate them, That "Thing" above looks like a 'Blue Peter bling n Tat' project that has gone horribly wrong ....As do most of the recent LR Specials, the most recent thing is truly vile, but I am sure will sell to the chelsea blondes and school run bimbos (Can you tell yet I really don't like them ? ) I guess the question is other than "why" you want a TR is WHAT do you want your new LR for and to do with it ? I could do with something like that, for carrying metal.
Ruuman
Hi JCB, I actually like the genuine tomb raider model (as in the film) but am with nige on on the current 60th, puke warmed up best describes it in my book! Anyway back to your question, softop is surprisingly warm compared to an un-insulated truck cab or van body, but you will still be freezing by modern car standards! that is unless you fit the V8 in the hi-cap. Personally I'd look out for a good condition truck cab for winter then maybe a bikini top for "summer" (read less rain) and just keep a rain coat in the truck all the time. But I drive a soft top all year round and found the best solution was to wear my snowboarding jacket with the hood up I think safety devices can supply the roll cage that is fitted to that model, the rest is just bolt-on's apart from the interior which is mostly chequer plate with a nice racing steering wheel. here's the pic's I have when I saw it. no interior I'm afraid. also a couple of the proper landys my fav what I really want

And no i don't want the Pipe tube nor the stupid TR symbols etc, they look stupid, but the beast it self looks awsome, but not as good as the army landie. that is some nice stuff. pondering if you can pick up an ex one at all hehe
Anderzander
I like the shovel and pick on the tomb raider model - nice wooden handles.... anyone know where to get them from? Or are they so dear I'd be better off buying a decent one from a builders merchant?
Anderzander
I think I just found the shovel seems cheap for it to be well made?

'Pioneer tools' are available quite cheaply from Anchor Supplies (army surplus) - be warned about this place though, on three counts: 1. They have two depots in Notts that are about ten miles apart - you should establish which one has the tools before planning your visit. 2. You should allow two hours for your visit if you are at all like me. 3. Take just enough cash for what you intend to buy - no more, and for goodness sake DON'T take your plastic! On the subject of the car - my current favourite (vapour) Land Rover is a 110 pickup converted to V8 auto on LPG. And into dream mode now - I would extend the cab - not up to double-cab length, but just long enough to cover the LPG tank which would be across the car behind the seat-box. In this way there would also be a secure space above the tank for baggage etc. The plan would be to get a normal 110 ex-miltary and use an 3.9 RRC as a donor for engine/box, axles, power steering etc etc.. That's my dream anyhow...
FridgeFreezer
Ignoring the point of the bolt-ons, the proper TR 110 is pretty cool, and the 110HC + V8 combo IMHO is an excellent one. Chap in our club used to tool round in one (HCPU V8) and it was pretty capable.

Hmm, it's something that all Land-Rovers should have a case for a Rocket Launcher (genuinely) http://www.teamtombraider.com/forum/index.php?topic=1073.0 including Interior Will give you some ideas They one in the film looks good but as TR LE but mine no longer looks like one. 60th best thing you could do is burn it, why the hell didn't Land-Rover launch the real SVX (concept released in about 98)
