350ypvs
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5-TON-HD-HAND-PULLER...%3A1%7C294%3A50 That is a link to a hand winch. Has anyone tried one of these and if so are they any use? Gary
cipx2
That one is of chinese origin. You won't be able to pull 2 tones with it, let alone 5 (I mean 2 tone pulling force, not pulling a 2 tone boat through the water or on land). That's because: - you don't have enough muscle power to do that; it's aprox a 1:10 lever followed by 1:2 pulley => about 1:20 in all - something will break or bend in the mechanism - they're too flimsy for the job. They initially were something like 600-800 kg pullers. I think Draper makes/made one also. The chinese went up 2 tonnes (on the tin) keeping the same size wire etc. Usually they're advertised as 4 tonne pullers. Now I see they went up to 5 tonnes in the same flimsy construction. Might be ok as long as you don't expect more than 300-400 kg pulling power from it.

BogMonster
What cipx said - the rating is as much of a joke as the poxy little towball electric winches that claim to pull 15000kg! In other words the rating is based on the weight of an object it might be able to move downhill, assuming a good following wind, the weight is suspended on wheels with roller bearings and the whole lot is running on greased teflon coated marbles. Not much to do with the actual line pull. Best kept for debogging wheelbarrows!
mscowley
I've got a four tonne hand puller and that works a treat pulled my mates disco out from this and if you cant afford a winch bumper and a winch then its the next best thing, just make sure its a good one and not one of those cheap a**e one.
