HALF SHAFT CIRCLIP

The circlip that goes on the end of the halfshaft at the drive member end. is it necessary? What happens if you dont put one on. If you dont , does the shft slide inward and jam in the diff or lock the cv. Sorry for a numpty question, Stumpy :ph34r:

I would assume it's there to keep the centre line of the CV joint in line with the centre of the swivel bearings, having said that, it can't move any more than about 2 or 3 mm, I doubt if thats enough to cause any problems, but who knows?
