maxtherotti
hi all can i fit my factory fit disco 1 alloy wheel nuts to my modulars or do i need the steel nuts? thanks rob
Turbocharger
So long as the nut has a cone at the edge where it meets the steel wheel, it'll work although the nuts will sit proud and look a little odd.

FridgeFreezer
I thought the alloy wheel nuts had a much flatter face and hence wouldn't locate a steel wheel properly, steel nuts having a much more conical face to match the wheel stud holes. Or to put it another way, I thought there was a good reason the steel nuts were used on steel wheels & the alloy wheel nuts used on alloys

DiscoStu
They do work but as FF says, there are different types for a reason. I used my alloy nuts on modulars for about 1500 miles while I got a set of steels sorted - no issues but I'm sure a sharp eyed plod or MOT man would have disagreed. The marshall at an RTV did object but said get them sorted for next time - interestingly, a rule clarification was published in our last club mag, any LR fitment wheel may be used but must use the correct nut for the wheel. It's nice to know I can still make waves... Stu
wozza35
I have seen a disco with mods on but using alloy nuts and it didnt look very safe to me
BogMonster
The alloy wheel nut is designed to retain the standard steel spare on a Tdi Discovery - many were only supplied with 4 alloys plus steel spare as a cost saving measure. That's why the LR alloy nut has the chamfer on the bottom. Personally I think it looks hideous, but they are designed for it.
Turbocharger
It's fine- the cone profile is correct for the contact patch and thus Discos were sold with 4 alloys, a steel spare and no spare set of nuts. In my opinion the club were being over cautious.
BogMonster
Coo there's an echo in here too
bluespanner
Please do be aware that its only the nuts with chrome caps that have the chamfer and are therfor suitable for steels also. The none chrome type has a flat bottom, which doesnt mate with steel wheels. Roland
