Edd
I managed to damage the thred on an ome front shock. I didnt realise (ok it was late) that they are fine thread and as a nut was missing just substituted it for what i thought was an eqivalent (albeit coarse thread.) I now have a shock whos bottom thread starts metric coarse an ends metric fine! I can guess the answere but does anyone have any ideas as to how to repair? The damaged thread is the bit te athe nylock will grip and not the part that the nut itself will be on. Its just i dont want to shell out more money if i dont have to Edd

white90
can you fit two nuts even if you have to cust them in half, different threads for the different threaded sections. if not take it off and cut a new thread on it with whats left then fit a new nut of the correct new cut thread
simonr
You can actually buy Half-nuts in most sizes. Think that would be safest. Si
Guest diesel_jim
When i've snapped studs off before, i've just cut (With andle grinder) the old stud off (which are usually just a pan headed "bolt" anyway) and weld on a new one. obviously being very carefull not to let the end of the damper get too hot, just weld in little spurts and allow to cool in between. always worked a treat for me. DEANO3528
I was getting a noise on the back of the disco and found that the bottom shock mount was loose in the axle bracket. It seems it was cross-threaded when fitted new (doen't you love these 'Independant Specialists'! Anyhow, the thread was scrap but I managed to cut an M12 x 1.75 without having to reduce the size, and it turned out to be a good replacement. There was no way I was throwing away a perfectly good +2" Nitrocharger without having a go at it. There was no way on this earth I was going to attempt a welding job on it though. JST
good timing this thread. i must have mashed the thread on a rock or similar to one of my rears (only 3mths old as well!) thread is knackered and whilst i managed to get the old nut off , it wont go back on. my tap and die set doesnt go big enough either. so has anyone a tap and die set, local to me that will do the job, or else welding some new studding on will be the answer. DEANO3528
I'll be totally honest and say I don't know! There are several in the area and I know the owner who had them fitted never did any of his own work. I don't have a receipt for that job so who knows?
