JonB Posted September 5, 2010 Share Posted September 5, 2010 I Think the motor and/or gearbox is set to work more efficiently when motoring in than out (my x9 sounds significantly different motoring out than in) . Disco-Ron Posted September 5, 2010 Share Posted September 5, 2010 I would get them to swap it over, the motor is always on the left, the writing on it is even back to front, and surely they had to reel the cable on wrong to get it that way round....?? bishbosh Posted September 5, 2010 Share Posted September 5, 2010 If the brake is in the drum (as I suspect it is on that model), you must turn your winch around. otherwise you will burn out the brake and end up in a horrible mess when you try letting yourself down a slope. Disco-Ron Posted September 5, 2010 Share Posted September 5, 2010 The reason the brake is there is to hold you, or stop the cable from simply pulling off the drum.... Lets assume you were winching yourself uphill, and you stop the winch motor, if there was no brake, the weight on the cable could easily pull the cable off the drum, and you would go back down the hill, not a good plan, however, as said, if the winch stays the wrong way around, you will be pulling against the brake all the time, and it won;t last very long at-all!! Maverik Posted September 6, 2010 Share Posted September 6, 2010 I have a 12000lb winch similar to hitower, took it apart for a fettle the brake in the drum core works on a simple inertia type linkage, yeah, I think it wise to get it turned the right way round.
