brighouse shed
I have some spider type wind on snow chains which amazingly will fit my landrover other cars run autosox, question which wheels should i fit them to?
Bluemoon
front wheels, gives you traction and steering, Brian
smokinv8
Definately front. Mate of mine came along with us on a very snowy day and outdid us all using snow chains on the front and just AT tyres whereas we all had Special traks and laughed at him at 1st! brighouse shed
thanks reckon it's fronts then, just wondered if there was a rear bias in the drive say 55 45 just to reduce tyre wear on the fronts, but that said running ATs anyway so gonna take some time to wear that much Tony
PGM316
And having them on the front helps you stop faster! I like it on Ice Road Truckers were they call not having snow chains on "going barefoot"
tacr2man
Dont try and use the spider type chains in anger as they will not handle the sort of torqueloads a landrover will put on them , but as a get you out of trouble aid they are easy to use . l

tacr2man
The manual may say that but experience says other , as also stated on the other thread .
Diff
According the the manual on a defender they should be fitted rear as Mike has linked. I think you have misread the instructions in the manual - It isn't very well worded but if you read it carefully, it means: If only one set of LR approved chains is available, they should be fitted to the front. The manual says NON APPROVED chains should be fitted to the rear. This is ONLY because non approved types MIGHT catch on the brakes. This is the genuine part wording from Land Rover's Accessory brochure: Snow Chains - 235/65 and 265/75 R16 tyres Part No: STC8518 Snow Chains give improved steering and braking control on snow and ice, when fitted to front wheels (can also be fitted to rear wheels when necessary). Easy-fit design, manufactured from high quality hardened galvanised steel, the chains are supplied in a tough vinyl carry bag for storage when not in use. Hope this helps, Regards, Diff.
