PGM316
This is probably a stupid post, what websites do you recommend for making sure the green lanes you use have the right legal status. I use local tracks, I think they're ok to use, the farmers do!
CwazyWabbit
From what I'd read just because farmers use the lanes doesn't mean you can, quite often they will ban all vehicles unless for access. Anyway I'm sure one of the many knowledgeable people will come along and answer this post properly for you soon

gazelle
You will need to have a chat with the local Rights of Way officer at the local council. They have the "definitive map" of rights of way which gives the up to date status of the lanes and any TROs that are enforced on the lane. You are limited (as I understand it) to Byways, and must keep off anything classified as Footpath or Bridleways. There was a website called wayfinder (http://www.way-finder.co.uk/), which listed the rights of way, but it is not necessarily up to date and the status of the lanes should be checked with the council. Some councils also have what they call an interactive map on their sites. HTH Martin
PGM316
Thanks for the help, I'll do some research!
specialbikejames
http://www.trailwise.org.uk/ Use an OS map/Memory Map in conjunction with the above, it's quite accurate. If they are unsure of a lanes status they just say so, so you can then research that one further. But always obey any signs you find out on the trail regardless of what any website states. DrRob
All we ask is that you stay legal in order to keep lanes open for all Best advice is to join a local group who know their stuff e.g. your local LR club will have a Rights of Way officer. in the meantime: http://www.lro.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=48650 Check and double check Byway status with your local council RoW officer.... landroversforever
I don't know about Lancashire, but for oxfordshire there is a copy of the definitive map online showing the status of all Byways/bridleways/footpaths
