Boydie
On a friends series 1 (auto with A/C) there are two what apear to be temperature probes in the thermostat housing, one has a green twin wire connector the other green, again twin wires, can anyone shed a light on what these two do? They are not the temperature guage, that is a smaller 1/8 BSP probe in the side of the housing with a single wire, these two are under the alloy bend. My series 1 hasnt got them, only blank plugs

chadler
They are the thermostatic switches for the a/c I believe, although I'm sure someone will be along soon to add a bit more detail.

SPendrey
That's right... The A/C fans switch on at something like 105 degrees if I recall.

Snagger
Close - one of the switches is for the AC auxilliary fans if the viscous fan isn't managing by itself, and the second is an AC cut-out trigger to kill the AC and ease the engine load if the combined cooling of the viscous and electric auxilliary fans still can't cope. Boydie
Thanks guys, it seems that some Series 1 Discos were supplied without A/C and it was added after sale as a dealer option, so these sensors were never fitted. Mine has the sensor for the fans but no sensor to cut out the compressor, anyway thanks for your infomation, it helps figure things out.
