muddy
Thanks chaps, will order a thread finder but could do with anymore info ASAP needed the tap yesterday! I have both fine and course taps but neither seemed to work, fine spline I think 1.5 did start but started going tight 1/4 of the way down and started making me nervous. Will. vulcan bomber
Offer up the tap to the removed bolt, if the threads fit into each other the tap is the correct pitch.
muddy
They do/ did thats what baffled me. Ordered taps today, dad muttered something about unf and metric but signal dropped out so gawd knows see tommoro. Will.
CwazyWabbit
If you are just cleaning holes rather than tapping can't you just use a head bolt and cut some groves across the threads with an angle grinder? (so it vaguely resembles a tap) Normally works fairly well to clean carp out of threads.
