godzilla84
Hi folks, I have recently removed the grille on my Disco to clean my radiator and intercooler and i have found that both are in a pretty bad way. Most of the fins are feeling pretty fragile and crispy. My first thought was to get both refurbed and im going to get it priced up on monday. Depending on what i get quoted for this, i may end up getting replacements. I dont want to faf around with fitting new pipe work so i want to get the correct ones. Is there a difference between the 200tdi and 300tdi intercooler/radiators in terms of the location of the inlet/outlet pipes? Many thanks, Mark (Godzilla)
Phillis
The radiators are different, oil cooler is in the same place , not sure if same connections, the top is in the same place but the bottom is on the other side,
Maverik
I got quoted 140 to get my 300 radiator re-cored at Aberdeen radiator specialist, not asked them about the intercooler... might do that.
godzilla84
I have seen 300tdi radiators on ebay for between £100 - £140. On closer inspection, my intercooler has a little more life left in it so im just going to clean it out for the time being and get the radiator recored if i can find somewhere that will match the ebay prices. Maverik
Watch out for "cheaper" radiators, a lot of the pattern part ones have plastic endssides, so it means the cooling elements are glued in place rather than soldered. I looked into it a bit, decided that a re-core as long as the rest of the radiator is sound is the better option, they usually pressure test and fix any other minor problems with them too. godzilla84
Does anybody know the difference between part numbers BTP2275 and BTP2275R. The latter is labeled as Aluminium. Does this mean entirely aluminium. The former has definitely got the plastic sides which Maverik refers to above.
SPendrey
The R typically designates the part is a Replacement, i.e. not genuine and not OEM.
Boydie
I had my radiator recored with the standard core out of a Mack Dynatherm - it has a 4 row core (off set) using 1/2" tubes as againt the standard inline 4 row core with 1/4" tubes the cost was around AUD $540.00 but the reduced water temperature made it well worthwhile. It fits/solders into the existing LR heads without any modification - apart from being cut down in overall length -

JimAttrill
And while they are at it get them to drill holes in the plates that separate the top half from the bottom half of the rad. This seems to be a design fault. Anyway, drill holes and then the radiator works better.
Boydie
The drilled holes allow any air trapped in the bottom half of the radiator to travel to the top of the radiator and then out to the header bottle
godzilla84
I have found a place near me in Liverpool that will re-core the original radiator for £144 so i am going with that option. They have said they can do the same to the intercooler for £90.
