Maverik
Hi people, got a curious D1 sat in a field near me that has evidently got a Nissan 3ltr (ish) Tdi engine in it. the present owner says it was fitted by land rover as a prototype unit... anyone ever heard of it? Maverik
by the ominous silance I'll go with the owner is talking bull s***e like I thought...
godzilla84
I find it unlikely as land rover/rovers japanese deal was with honda. Hence the Honda Crossroad and the rover 400 shaped civic. So yes I would go with your assessment of the owner talking BS
ToyRoverlander
LR (australia) used Isuzu engines in their australian market 110's and army vehicles. Who knows, some smart engineer at LR might had a brainwave and realized a Nissan engine would have been a far better powerplant than what LR had to offer
Nigelw
Personally doubt it, more like it was an amazing ploy to get some poor soul into parting with a lot more money thinking he was buying automotive history not just another rusty Disco. tacr2man
seeing as how the tdi engine was developed primarily for the disco why would LR put a 3 l nissan in a prototype ? so looks like a Load of B*ll !!

CwazyWabbit
If it were a prototype looking at the engine mounts should give an idea. If you see scars where the old ones have been hacked off and the new ones look to have been slapped together in a shed then it's not likely to be a prototype .... although knowing Land Rover But in seriousness looking at the install should give you an idea if it's a conversion or a prototype.... Nigelw
I have just found it in a copy of LRO and quote "we already had the 2.4 VM Italian turbo diesel to go in if the engineers had not got the 200Tdi ready in time" So deffo not anything more than a home grown prototype just to see if it would work? LR (australia) used Isuzu engines in their australian market 110's and army vehicles. Who knows, some smart engineer at LR might had a brainwave and realized a Nissan engine would have been a far better powerplant than what LR had to offer I drove an Isuzu 3.1 Tdi powered RRC, wish they had slipped something in like that, was a beauty, plenty torque and pull was amazing!!!
