jameshub
I am planning on buying 3mm chequer plate wing tops but as the wing tops aren't completely flat (albeit they are not too bad), would you advise using a gasket as well? I assume this just mould and helps remove the uneven surface?
ejparrott
dunno about a gasket but mine has silicone to seal the edges, quite a common thing.
western
I set a bead of silicone clear sealant around the edge of mine, not had any problems since fitting about 14 years ago.
landroversforever
The gasket is just to stop the ingress of crud under the chequer plate. I'd go with a bit of silicone rather than a gasket.
jameshub
any particular sealant? so just round edge, then fit with normal screws etc and wipe excess off that is pushed out?
western
mine is rivetted on with rivet burrs on the inside of wing, I used outdoor clear sealant, can't remember where I bought it from or what brand.
GW8IZR
If its possible that you may want to paint the car at some time don't put silicone anywhere near the panels as its all but impossible to paint after that. Buy a 1K seam sealer from an auto paint store as it is ok to paint. HTH
