boyt
I have a 200tdi discovery with a madza 3.5 slti engine in. Im fed up with the dam engine so was thinking of putting a 300tdi or td5. I like the idea of the td5 but the simpleness of the 300. What power is people getting from the 300 Andy
Boydie
300TDi is capable of the same power as a Td5 with no electronics and far simpler operation. It all depends how you want to go, power or economy, economy also equates to engine long life
Maverik
If you do some searching on here via google, you'll find many threads on engine choices and debates on power etc. Mav
Nigelw
It's "that" question again, you should PM dirty diesel about the ISUZU 4BDT1 engine, 3.9 TDI that is very similar dimensions to a 300Tdi but a bucket more power, oh how I wish I could but in my county they don't allow such things
FridgeFreezer
Worth noting that any big 4-banger diesel will eat your gearbox due to the huge lumpiness. Sure you can get loads of power out of a TDi, but for a proportionally shorter amount of time. If you want the power, use the engine that makes it out of the box or expect it to have a short life. CwazyWabbit
Out of interest what do you hate about the Mazda engine?
boyt
Hate the cost and availability of parts. Ive had to. Recon turbo. Recon pump. Headgasket. Water pump. I had the injectors clean and reset up due to part availability. But now there buggered and im awaiting nossels to be made. Should she them by the end of july. And its never impressed me power wise. My 200tdi with tweeked pump and hybrid turbo was quicker
CwazyWabbit
Cheers for the info, I'd only heard good things about them before. Interesting to hear the bad points to.
FridgeFreezer
That's the 2nd troublesome SLT35 I've heard of recently.
