bud1uk
Hi would appreciate some advice. I have 'inherited' an old Land rover tht was used for farm work. Trying to sell it, but as it's been sitting in a field for years the chassis etc. is rusted to byuggery therefore in no condition to sell. On the up side it it has a genuine -9,000 on the clock as it was only used to drive from the farm to the top field (small farm), the good new is that the engine seems fine and turns over very nicely. Have had a couple of viewers but they were only interested in buying the vehichle as a whole and the condition makes it imposible to MOT etc.so not interested. What would you reckon would be a fair price for me to sell it for parts or for the engine alone? Any help would or sdvivce would be greatly apreciated. Thanks

western
as the vehicle in the photo's is a Series 3 & not a Defender, this thread has been moved to the correct forum
Retroanaconda
Are you sure it hasn't gone round the clock once? Some bigger photos of the whole vehicle would be useful to gauge overall condition etc. I bought a SWB tax-exempt Land Rover in the Crawley area a number of years back for £50 - so don't hold out for lots of money! Scrap value is a good place to start.
bud1uk
99.9% sure the mileage was gennuine, belonged to the present owners father and only used it drive to his top fields and back 2 miles max, could be BS but but don't think so as it never went on-road. Daan
To be honest, you could start spending a few hours give it a good wash, it looks to me like that will brush up real nicely. do you still have the bumper? fit it back so it is complete. Make some really nice pictures on a sunny day and the value has doubled. you dont mention how the chassis looks, but the rear crossmember looks good to me from the picture. The condition of the chassis is going to be the main decider of the sale price of the car. My next step would be an mot test; It probably wont pass, but it gives you a stake in the ground as to what you have. If it is not too bad, say £500 to make it roadworthy, do it. If it is a lot more than that sell it as is. The best place to sell something like this is Ebay: it always amazes me what is being offered and what is actually sold. Some nice pictures go a long way selling it on the internet, and if your mot test wasn't too desparate, just print of the faultlist, and prospective buyers know exactly what they are bidding on. bud1uk
Thanks for your help everyone, one of the hguys who lives locally even kindly came offeed to come rounf and look at it, so thank you for that. Told him (the owner who wanted me to sell it for him, I trade on Ebay) that yourselves and others who have seen it said and he reckons he can get at least £600 scrap value for it at least as 'he was in the business' so advised him to do.so.
