Tom17
Hi all my back passenger side wheel is caked in grease or oil or something? What's up with it? What need replacing or repair? Cheers
mike4444244
check your axle breather is clear, if it blocks the axle can pressurise as it heats up and blow oil out through the dust caps
Mutley
Hub seal at a guess. Just did mine for the same reaso
landroversforever
Inside or outside of the wheel?
ebygum110
as Ross says, inside the wheel or outside the wheel - guessing outside and its probably a blocked breather as has been mentioned, a longish journey and pressure builds up and blows the seal out. If you have perished hub covers like mine it just dribbles out and then flicks all over the wheel at speed. Replacement seals aren't expensive. western
check the hub plastic centre cap for splits if the grease is on the outside, if on inside hub seal or breather as mentioned above.
Tom17
check the hub plastic centre cap for splits if the grease is on the outside, if on inside hub seal or breather as mentioned above It's on the outside! But the cap seems fine
western
Check the 5 bolts in the drive member inb centre of hub are tight, if the cap looks fine, it could still have a split, it needs to be off the hub for a good look & ensure it is fully seated on the drive member too. A mate is claiming it the axle seal as if seems to be oil from the diff? Could this be the case
Mutley
That would be the drive flange gasket?
western
won't be diff oil on the outside of the wheel A mate is claiming it the axle seal as if seems to be oil from the diff? Could this be the case not on the outside of the wheel, more likely the cap or the suggestion above
The Badger
Mine has done this about 4 times since I have had it, every time its the stub axle oil seal
