D2 transfer boxes

No the transfer box ratios are the same for manuals and autos, if you want to go lower I believe the Defender ratios are the way to go, Ashcroft have the ratios on their web site, all you need to obtain the the code/model number off the side of your box to confirm what actual ratio you have.

I was offered one yesterday as the guy was also selling a Defender 1.4 box that I was interested in taking off his hands to mate to the LT77 I have sitting on my bench but it had already been sold, but he recently broke 2x D2s and has transmissions sitting there in his barn and he thinks they are the same ratios as a Defender 1.4 just wondering really as I think the 235/85 are going to raise the gearing on my Disco a bit too much for the 200Tdi TBH.

I'd agree too mike, but it could be a 90 transfer box too, they are the same ratio as a 110, except the very early ones which were 1.667.

I have not yet driven my truck on or off road yet and only really shunting it around the yard with a quick blast up the woods and back for a little bit of a shake down, and it does seem to be a little high geared when setting off in 1st and although once in motion it seems ok I would rather not be hunting a gear or too hard on the clutch when fully loaded and going up and down the hills.

The seller seems to be under the impression that the D2 had the 1.4 ratio T-box but I was sure it was 1.2 the same as I already have fitted, just wanted to be sure though and I think I might have to source one from the UK as anything with Discovery attached to its description is affordable but you put "Defender" in the sales description and the price triples

Iirc all the 90's had a 1.44:1 so slightly different to 110's as far as I know all range rover and discovery's had 1.22:1 t-boxes just some d2's didn't have diff lock and remember all lt230's have the same low ratio with the possible exception of the 1.00:1ish boxes used on auto's.

Maybe the gearset from ashcrofts would be worthwhile then? http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=176

What did you just do CW???:lol::lol:

Here we go again, guess my GF will be very happy with my Christmas wish list, it goes along the lines of

http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=154

http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=176

http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=8

http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=138

http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=231

And then I have to ask nicely for a new clutch and then convince her that ours needs doing so I can rebuild the transfer box, either that or I could be single and poor but have a nice running truck :hysterical:

Although incidentally, did you see my post on Bills vapordrive project for a 1.66 final and an O/D? Wonder what that would be like to drive with?

Lol Nigel, appologies for that :hysterical:

I am actually thinking now that Bowies idea is a better one as it will lower your low ratio to, you could still add an overdrive if you wished ;)

Time to do some ratio calcs ;)

Now I am getting it a little better, the R&P swap to a more doable 4.12 would bring things back in line nicely and then add a GKN O/D(not to mention a little bit of fabrication for the back of the transmission tunnel  ) and the bigger sump with cooling fins and I think it could be much more livable in the long run, could even slip the R&Ps in the order when I get the Ashcroft lockers and they can be fitted to the lockers too so just need bolting in, oooh, this is sounding better by the minute, now just need to convince SWMBO that the lockers have gone up by another £200 and jobs a good'un :)
