Softdash ABS

Malachite

Recommended Posts

Thanks for that Geoff, I have an intermittant abs & tc light come on, the lights go off as normal at about 5mph then I hear what sounds like a relay clicking from under the dash/footwell area after a few miles then the lights come on again, the brakes work fine when the lights are on or off, any more ideas anyone?

Cheers

Paul

Yep, it is under the passenger seat. The symptoms sound like a sensor issue, either a faulty sensor, mis-set gap or something throwing the exciter ring out (like bad wheel bearings or a cracked cv joint , which form the front exciter rings),

Thanks for all your replies, the clicking ( sounds like a relay ) starts after a few miles and the brake pedal goes mad untill the lights come on again, I will try the front CV joints, the rear exciter rings are ok as I have just fitted new discs, calipers, pads and bearings.

Cheers

Paul

Hi ..

i also may have problems with the abs.. been searching for answers, but cant find anything.. i have a 1995 softdash, the brake pedal seems ok, i have had all the brakes replaced all round, but dont have any lights on the dash at all..

when braking the relay clicks in and out.. am i just looking at news bulbs or is there deeper problem lurking ?? if its just the bulbs, does anyone know what the correct bulbs are..

thanks..

sorry if i have hijacked the post.. dont know where else to go..

Does the ABS actually work?? If yes you might be lucky and it's just the lamps are both blown for some reason. Do all the other lamps work (oil, charge etc)??

If just the ABS/TC symbols I suspect you'll find that the lamps are simply not there and have been removed due to a fault and MOT/Sale time etc. It is possible to get the binnacle out to check without removing the wheel but is very tight.

are they the so called grain of wheat bulbs ?? , will go buy some if i know...

Rogers of Bedford let me borrow their generic diagnostic tool from time to time. It's a big blue plastic tablet with touch screen, possibly Autologic. There are other types about too, as well as LR's own system. You'd need to phone around your local garages to find someone with a compatible system - it's not just the hardware but also the software on the device being LR compatible. Any LR franchise and most non-franchised specialists should have a system they could plug in. It takes five minuted to do a diagnostic, so they might be willing to do it for a token gesture rather than full workshop hour charge, like if you offer them a nice bottle of something...
