studmuffin
Quick question. Looking to buy a Rivnut tool. What size should I buy to cover most uses on a Defender? TIA Barry
Maverik
The most common size I think you'll find is M8 - 13mm AF spanner size, or 10mm AF spanner size if you're talking about the stupid non standard M8 bolts Land Rover use. That's from experience with vehicles from 86 to 97 Defenders and Discovery's...

JeffR
Got a Sealey one, which is excellent and a Bluepoint one which seems to do everything - rivets, rivets and rivbolts; unfprtunaely it doesn't do any of the three very well...
zardos
My home made tool does any size I want it to
Scotts90
I got an eBay special that does up to M10 rivnuts, seems to work ok for £40. It does the alloy rivnuts easily regardless of size but the steel m10 ones require a degree of effort. The only down fall of the large handled models is restricted access....then the universal bolt/nuts/washer technique needs to be used. Plenty of topics on google for homemade rivnut tool
Boris113
I made one a couple of weeks ago from a piece of flat bar, a couple of nuts and a bolt. Unless you are going to use it regularly, that may be a more cost-effective option.
