Sealey VS431 Angular Torque Gauge

Can anyone explain how the Sealey VS431 angular torque gauge works?

I'm looking to buy a gauge to fit a head gasket to a 300tdi at the weekend, but the reviews on the standard bar type seem pretty poor, saying that they are useless

The VS431 is a clip on type, but can understand how it works?

Any help would be great

Many thanks

Ade

I'm afraid I can't help on how it works, but when I recently did the head gasket on my 300TDi I just printed out a 360 degree protractor from google images, cut a square hole in the middle of it, covered it in sellotape to protect it a bit and then slotted it over the end of the torque wrench before putting the socket on. Cost = £0 :)

I guess the clip just provides enough friction to stop the dial from spinning with the socket.

The bar type works alright, it just takes a few tries on each bolt to find something to reliably prop the bar up against.
