mickeyw
Following a mail shot from Screwfix I rather liked the look of these lights. This lamp is on offer at £23 right now, so I felt it worth a try Contra to some of the reviews on the page, I think this is a fantastic light for working under the truck, or anywhere else for that matter. We are not talking about 150W halogen levels of brightness, but more than enough for spannering, wheel changing, and welding too. Far too bright to look into without retinal damage Claimed run time is hours on a 5hr charge. I haven't had a chance to test this yet though, I've probably had it on for at least 2 hours thoughj. You get mains power and 12V chargers with it.
Quagmire
My Dad has one of these and the best thing about it is that it doesn't get hot like a normal one, much better for when you are wedged under a vehicle in close proximity to it! CwazyWabbit
I have one of those as well Mickey, I think you get about 3 hours use out of it and then it will switch off to save you wrecking the battery (only had it go flat once while I was actually using it). I think it's great One note is that in the destructions it says not to use it whilst it is charging, not sure of the exact reason for this. UdderlyOffroad
mmmm tempting. I just wish they did a decent mains-powered one in LED form. I did post instructions on how to build the DIY 'budget' version a while ago...
elbekko
I bought a multi-LED all plastic one at Aldi a few years back, that's still going strong despite being dropped and held under upside-down welding etc. Recently bought a battery powered version of the same light, and that works well too, although I do prefer the consistent output of the mains powered one. As mentioned here, LED is great because it doesn't give off a lot of heat, so you can use it while working under a car without getting boiled. These LED lamps just switch off when the battery runs out, there is no gradual dimming.
elbekko
I do notice they dim after a bit. Mind you, they're very cheapo chinese lights, so no form of controller or whatever.
CwazyWabbit
Another positive use for these emerged tonight, we had a power cut right in the middle of dinner, shining this at the ceiling allowed dinner to continue
