Anderzander
Are the ducts that mount to the inside of the wing all supposed to be held with screws and captive nuts? - mine look like rivets ...
miketomcat
Normally screws but they are also normally stripped, buggered or missing so rivets doesn't surprise me. Mike
Mo Murphy
There should be spire nuts clipped over the edge of the plastic and self tappers into them through the grille and the wing. Mo
Anderzander
Thanks both. There are two spire nuts too - so do you mean the screws for them are supposed to come through the cover? I don't think I've seen a grille with screws on it !
miketomcat
Internal duct is screwed through the wing then the grill has plastic spikes that push into clips in the wing. Mike
Anderzander
Sorry - I'm missing the obvious here ... Why are there spire nuts and captive ones ?
western
the duct on top of wing has loknut insert in the wing metal edge for the outer grille, the actual duct intake for heater has spire nuts on the duct edge of the intake hole & is seperatly screwed to wing with self tapping screws both sets can be seen in http://www.allbrit.de/UNI.cfm?PAGE=760644&SPRACHE=EN items 19 & 20 = duct to wing & items 18 & 21 = outer grille TD/200Tdihttp://www.allbrit.de/UNI.cfm?PAGE=758841&SPRACHE=EN300Tdi & Td5 http://www.allbrit.de/UNI.cfm?PAGE=758475&SPRACHE=ENturbo intake ducts are fitted with sprie nuts/screws & the grille is fitted to wing metalwith pins on the grille into plastic barrels which push into small holes in the flange for the grille = grille sits flush with wing side skin & no nasy screw heads to spoil the effect as in
Mo Murphy
Sorry Stephen for confusing you, I thought you were talking about the heater inlet. The intake air grille is as Mike describes it above. Mo
Anderzander
No need to apologise Mo . The confusion is just that my air intake has both captive nuts - and spire nuts ... And silicone ! So I wasn't really clear what should be there - sorted now though. Thank you all.
