Bowie69
They are called 'tulip' diagrams, for obvious reasons, IIRC they have a 'how to read' at the beginning of the section.Basically they have a distance, and a sketch of the junction you will get to, follow your trip meter and you know your way, in theory.... pat_pending
They're called Tulips. It's a pictogram of the road layout showing how to navigate a section. Used in rallying. Beaten to it by Bowie!
western
used in rallying, here's a few notes on how to read them http://www.h4hrallyforum.com/t53-advice-how-to-read-a-tulip-map-diagram the black dot at bottom of the direction arrow is your vehicle, the arrow pointy head is the direction you need to go to follow the route, lines off each side are other roads,

Arjan
We use them a lot and the clients love them. Most find them easier to read than maps - esp. as these days people are so used to SatNavs... Good software to create them is not cheap but well worth the investment if you like making routes off maps and see how it goes. You will need a good odometer (mileage / km whatever) to make it work - we have Brantz systems in the LR's for the navigator and they are well worth the money. Have fun !
